I'm thinking about adding a second army to my Epic collection. I play Space Marines and was thinking of getting Dark Eldar or Tau, they both look like having a very different play-style to SM and I'm looking forward to painting something different :)

One advantage that Dark Eldar have is the price, it looks to me like a much cheaper army than Tau. On the other hand I could potentially get some Forgeworld Tau models :)

Any advise?

I've bern collecting a DE army recently.
The EpicUK DE list seems really, really fun to play. Tau doesn't look half as fun. I vote DE.

Thanks for the tip, I do like the models (the ones from Onslaught Miniatures) and will most likely get them :)

Hi there I play both armies and they are indeed quite different to most. I'd say that Tau are so the most. Their special rules and strengths forces you to really play the army differently. I have found you need to use coordinated fire and cross fire to get them to shine. Hard to play but very rewarding.

DE also are hard to master and for that reason are fun to play. They are a bit more conventional though, relying on assaults. and they look very good model wise

Tau are lethal in the right hands, - co-ordinated fire, markerlight and crossfire will ruin your day.
No idea about Dark Eldar as no one local has them yet, a shame.

Of course the sensible thing to do would be to get both...

Dark Eldar are fun to play against and seem to have plenty of room for sneaky tactics and generally dictating where the action will take place.
