But be advised ... you show pics of fire engine red AFVs, SMs, etc . ... I may make fun of you ... :P ;D

But what if it's from a deployment on a fire engine red alien world?

Need to get away from this rampant earth-centricism. Ultramarines are perfectly camouflaged for the blue, blue, stone fields of Lapis XII.

Some rely too much on camouflage. I'll always remember the time we were on an exercise with a bunch of American specials. Idea was for them to infiltrate a station up on the coast, plant mock charges and exfiltrate to their RV. I have to say, their camo was good for the inland scrub area....but considering the exercise was carried out near a coastal area, they didn't last 5 mins before 10 RAF military police in land rovers and on foot picked them off before they reached 200 yards of the station. Quickest exercise ive ever seen....lesson learned by them...proper planning and deployment needed! :)

Always good to see a good discussion, Im a historian myself, but work on periods in which camo was not an issue - dust and black powder soon obscured uniform colours in practice, and so on...

Slightly more on topic, L4s painting style is actually not so different from how GW themselves painted the very first epic minis in 88-89; land raiders, predators and rhinos were all camo painted (same went for 40K at the time), while the marines at least had less bright colours... Even the Titans had camo on the carapace. Maybe Ill reconsider my painting scheme...

You'll always find an exception ... again, based on my experience camo, cover & concealment ... works and will work in the future. Whether that will be true or not ... we'll just have to wait and see ...

Don't get me wrong, I concur that camo, cover and concealment works very well (and always will do) for various elements of warfare. However, I don't believe having everything camo'd up and that in many conflicts, basic monotone/two tone drab colours work just as well.

Im of the same ilk as you are re- drab colours for armies, however there is something about the fantasy universe that brings out the adventurous side that wants to paints space marines in fancy bold colours....an escape from realism for me. I must add that I was painting model soldiers as a kid in wacky colours, pretending to fight on mars and the moon long before I saw any GW minis or fluff :).

Im liking your minis you e posted, especially the proper 'Dark' Angels btw. :)

Thank U +psypher+ ! I remember painting historical in my youth, AWI, ACW, Romans, Spartans, WWII, etc. ... but I did have some sci-fi too. But never remember painting them in circus colors ... ;D Maybe it's just me ? :o ;)
