Looks like you have some pretty bad luck with the 4++ saves in engagements. Just to confirm: you aren't hacking down the Fearless constructs after they lost combats, are you? Other than that, looks like a good close game (and with lots of engagements!)

Thanks for the report Greg, certainly looked like an interesting game.

From the viewing of this and the other reports I am inclined to agree on the Construct special rule. But would like to see it actually be used though.

No avatar? Or did I miss that?

Those WB seem to be repeating the same pattern every game, just not very good it seems.

Really interesting report; some observations:

  • The strategy seems to have worked for once, the Vamps and SS all getting into position.
  • The Iyanden dice seem to have been as poor as the Marines dice were good. For four 4+ RA units to lose to 5+ and 6+ units is terrible - it looks like the WB did not move forwards in the 2nd round, but then lost all three remaining units. Equally failing all armour saves when assaulting from the Vampire is just unbelievable!
  • Despite the crazy luck, a pattern seems to be developing that the 4x strong Wraith formations are relatively weak, while the 6x strong Wraith formations fare better. Could you try some 5x strong formations please.
  • WB without FF do not work well as a formation, being susceptible to FF counter-attacks. However, I believe they would work much better in an upgrade role to the WG. Could you try some of these please before decisions are made on the WB.
  • I agree that the Construct rule is probably superfluous and look forwards to its demise. Basically, once the wraith formations have arrived, they tend not to move significantly. Howvever, the Iyanden need to take this into account and keep back something fast for turn three objective grabs - this is likely to be a delicate calculation with the current list, unless you are able to pick up a formation with the Vampire(s) . . . . .
  • The Avatar is always difficult to play with - give it time. When placed well it can be devastating, especially with the Inspiring character leading two Wraith hosts into an assault on a more significant target . . .
The point about this is that the Iyanden need to work in close support with each other, which in turn means the T&H objectives need to be placed well to allow this strategy to work.

Ginger mate, im going to have to call you on this - have you actually played a game with the list? If so please write a battle report. Your repetitive comments without grounding in actual games in really unhelpful.

You obviously have some skill with the eldar. You can see that from your tactics posts. But it is one thing to ruminate on a list and it is another thing entirely to actually play it.

Please play test the list and write a battle report.

Cheers,
Jim

Steady on Old Bean, Ginger is asking for some other options to be played, not having a go

It would be good if a "cheaper than WG" role for the WBs can be kept, so whilst 4 might be proving ineffective, I too would like to see them tested in larger formations. I'll see about a game.

I most certainly intend to post a game or two when I can arrange it, I am in a tournament this coming weekend . :)
Mind you, it seems that I may have a challenger to my crown as the unluckiest player, given some of those engagements . . . (did you count the number of '1's by any chance?) :D
