When using an Ork Warband, what do you feel is most effective?

Normal, Big or Uge.

I have enough troops for 2 Uge Warbands
+
6 Nobz stands
6 Kommando stands
6 Big Guns
6 Killa Cans
3 Odd Boy stands

I usually stick with normal, adding either Dreads (garrisons) or Battle Wagons and a Flak Wagon (mechanized). I play with two each of those.

Yeah Uge certainly gives you less activations, but damn if it doesn't look cool with all those orks in one huge mob. With 30 units it's going to take a lot of blast markers to get them running scared.

Normal if they are going to be doing something (often with 1 or 2 extra boys+grotz) like getting transport, or being loaded into a lander. Otherwise big for ground pounding infantry duties. Uge is just too unwieldy on the table. Though taking it and loading them into those big battlewagons is fun :)

I was wondering if anyone made a movement type tray with them. Will not work in buildings and such, but would be easy enough to move them in an open battlefield. Maybe line it with steel and the bases with magnets or something.

I made steel movement sheets for my Warmaster HE. They're useful there when you're in formations most of the time. I wouldn't bother for Epic as you're going to want to take advantage of terrain as much as possible, so a static formation isn't going to be something you're in after a move.

I run my warbands normal mostly for upping the activations. I actually don't use big and 'uge formations a lot at all, one or two in the whole army. Leave it to the Steel Legion to have the expensive formations. This thread did make me want to try with this list though:

WARBAND ('UGE) [550]
6 Nobz, 18 Boyz, 6 Grotz, 2 Killa Kan

WARBAND ('UGE) [500]
6 Nobz, 18 Boyz, 6 Grotz

KULT OF SPEED [200]
8 Warbuggy

KULT OF SPEED [200]
8 Warbuggy

STORMBOYZ WARHORDE [150]
6 Stormboyz

STORMBOYZ WARHORDE [150]
6 Stormboyz

FIGHTA SKWADRON [150]
3 Fighta Bomba

FIGHTA SKWADRON [150]
3 Fighta Bomba

FIGHTA SKWADRON [300]
6 Fighta Bomba

GARGANT [650]

You know, just for kicks. :) Set up the 'uge formations in garrison and see what my opponent does to counter them.

As an Eldar / Marine player I would agree that high activation numbers is crucial.

For Orks it is a slightly different matter as they need higher formation numbers to keep going. I found this list surprisingly good.

I'll usually try to have a big warband in most armies. It is nice to have to center the army around and is hard to beat in a engage. Huge on the other hand is a bit to unwieldy.

Tried a few time a big warband with two soopagunz as an alternative to a supa-stompa mob. Can start as garrison, double to some cover in the middle of the board and watch the opponent walk in circles around them fearing the MW blasts.
