I like the existence of the WE Heavy Marauder Bomber in the Krieg list. It's based on the Forge World Marauder bomber models which are pretty large (10cm wingspan) and similar in size to a Thunderhawk or Vampire. It's a 2 DC WE with 5+ non-reinforced armour and identical weapons to a regular Marauder.
I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of spamming them though and raised concerns ages ago that weren’t heeded so I've been meaning to try it out at some point for ages.
Turn 1Titan Legion win strategy and Reaver 1 opens up on the garrisoned Grenadiers, killing 3 Centaurs and 2 Grenadiers.
Navy support spotters have seen a Sentinel formation looking vulnerable in the open on the left and call in the first Marauder to attack them. It's off target though and does no damage.

I expected to move into cover given the chance and quite wanted to wipe them out and get rid of an activation off the TL, so I retained and sent a second Marauder to attack them. This did better, killing 3.

Reaver 2 sustained fires on an AA formation in the middle, kills a Heavy AA platform, Hydra Platform and Trojan. Broken survivors flee behind a building.

Death Riders march forward waving their pointy sticks threateningly at the titans to try to distract them.

Something attacked them (didn't write down what, probably one of the Warhounds?) as by this picture five of them have been killed.

A Marauder attacks the Warhound on the left, stripping both it's shields and placing a BM.

Warhound moves into the woods and kills one more Death Rider, breaking them.


The Titan Legion's own Marauders (just realised there 8 Marauders in our 3k game, how rare is that!) attack the other Death Riders on the left killing 1.

Grenadiers intend to attack the Sentinels and toast them with their Heavy Flamers, sadly they fail and clear BMs instead.

Warhound on left fails to Marshall but succeeds with supreme's re-roll. Moves into wood and removes BM and regains both shields.

Krieg Thunderbolts intercept the Marauders. They're shot at by the Marauders AA but take no damage. They have a lucky attack run and manage to gun down both Marauders.



The Krieg's deadliest unit – the Stormswords – fail to activate and just trundle forward impotently 15cm.

Gorgons double and fire their one-shot mortars at a Warhound, just placing a BM.

Marauder attacks Warhound, strips both shields and breaks it.
AA formation on right kill a Sentinel.

Yet another Marauder flies on, kills 2 Sentinels.


Death Riders March
One Marauder flies through AA of one of the titans but takes no damage. My other 3 Marauders fly off the enemy table edge.
Rally: Grenadiers, both Sentinels, Warhound, Stormswords.
Fail: broken AA on left, Death Riders by titan.
Turn 2Krieg win strategy. Death Riders want to charge a Warhound and Sentinels combined but fail to activate.

Reaver sustains on AA formation on right, kills a Trojan, Heavy AA platform and Hydra platform.


Warhound on left retains, singles and kills 3 Death Riders.

Grenadiers double and attack Sentinels (also bravely moving to FF range of the titans), breaking them.

Marauder Bomber retains and attacks other Sentinel, doing no damage but breaking it again.

Reaver sustains on Gorgons and does 1DC to one.


Warhound 3 retains (fails but re-rolls) and sustained fires at Grenadiers. Only scores 3 hits and 2 Grenadiers pass their 6+ saves by some miracle.

Marauder fails to come on.
Warhound fails, clears BMs.
Gorgons double and shoot the last broken Sentinel, killing it.

AA double and shoot Warhound 2 placing a BM.

Marauder comes on and attacks Warhound in wood. Has 3 attacks needing 5s and rolls 3 5s so stripping both shields and doing a point of damage.

Thunderbolts fail.
Marauder flies on and kills a Sentinel.

Last Marauder fails.
For the second turn in a row my Stormsword BTS fails to activate. Teach me not to take a supreme in a 2+ initiative army...

Turn 3Its a draw, so goes to the Titans this time.
Warhound 2 sustains at Gorgons doing 1DC.

Reaver retains and sustained fires at the Gorgons, doing 1DC to the undamaged one and clipping one of the AA formation too.

Death Riders again try to engage a Warhound... and fail. Curses.

Chuckling at the silly horsey people it opens up at them and kills 2 (including their Commissar).

Reaver retains, fails but re-rolls and passes. Does no damage but again puts 2 BMs on the Gorgons and the AA formation it can clip too.

AA on double forward.

AA to their left retain for no good reason and put a BM on a Warhound.
Warhound 3 Sustained fires on Grenadiers.

Grenadiers marshall, shooting Reaver and putting a BM on it then clearing their 5 BMs.

Next Marauder again attacks Warhound 1, only places a BM but breaks it.

Thunderbolts strips a shield off Warhound 2.

Death Riders by Blitz marshal
My Stormswords fail to activate for the third turn in the row. You can practically hear the sound of the Commissars readying their las-pistols to 'reward' this bravery post-battle.

Gorgons bravely engage Reaver 2 (didn't have that much hope of victory but wanted to end the battle with a big assault). They take down 3 shields and it kills 2 infantry and does a point of damage to a Gorgon. Combat result is a draw so the fight continues. This time the Krieg score 6 hits, though after taking down it's last shield all 5 are saved by its armour. Krieg loose by 2 with a Gorgon and infantry stand dying.

Post game thoughts: things went kind of as I expected in some ways. The usual anti-TL tactic of wiping out the fragile Sentinels and aircraft worked, though I failed to kill any of the titans. The bombers were handy and it helps having so many. Against tough vehicle targets, with reinforced armour and often in cover the Marauders just weren't able to do that much actual damage though. I'll need to try them again against a more conventional army to get a better idea of them. I suspect limiting them to 1 Heavy Marauder per core company could be a wise move. It would likely not effect 99% of Krieg lists people use but would cut back on potential abuse. A Krieg army has access to both cheap long range AA that can garrison and lots of barrage weapons and disrupt barrages, so it could be possible to write an army list that aims to win via bombers with excellent AA coverage, barrage weapons that target enemy AA as a priority and then 5-6 Marauder Bombers that attack once enemy AA has been neutralised. Played well it might be a frustrating list to play against.
