I'm planning on making some Harridans for my Tyranid force and I'm looking at possible parts.

Could anyone give me some kind of guide as to the scale I should be looking at?

I was originally planning on something like this for Harpy/Hive crone size:

and scaling up to something based on a 40k gargoyle with a Tyranid Warrior head for the Harridans, kind of like the standard hierodule conversion, but then I saw this:

These would be too big rght? I'm kind of hoping they won't be to be honest!! I just don't want to end up with something that's massively too big!

Hey just buy Harridans off ebay for a small fortune like I do! ;)

But seriously, the new plastic gargoyles are the right size and shape for a decent conversion, not to mention cheaper than FW probably. Just don't use the fleshborer arms (fill the gaps with green stuff maybe) and stick on a smaller head (like a ripper) if you can. It's probably one of the easiest conversions to do that still looks a lot like the original.

For reference, note how small the head is on the original, though the FW Harridan head is much bigger of course and the tyranid warrior head would work well for that.

Yeah, the 40k winged tyranid would be a pretty perfect for a truescale Harridan. Gargoyle would be rather too small.

Here's a photo of the OOP FW Epic scale Harridan by the way (it's on a 40mm base I believe to get an idea of the scale). It's a really nice model (I have 1-2 myself):

Ideally something similar in size would be ideal IMO. Ripper wings would be good for Harpies then.

Edited to add: found a second photo that better gets across the scale of how fricking HUGE a Harridan is meant to be - that's a 60mm base in the picture and the Harridan must be around 10cm long:

Ah, Glyn, your 40K-fu is indeed strong!!

I did have a niggling feeling that a Harridan should be a giant. Tyranid warrior wings it is then!! Just looking for half an excuse really!!

So are you saying Gargoyles are a bit too big for Harpies then? Maybe relegate them to Trygons and winged rippers for the Harpies/Crones...

Goodo on the wings, post up some pictures when you're done :)

Not sure on the Harpy, not really familiar with the stats or how big it is in 40k. Try some google image searches to work it out?

Winged rippers are the perfect harpy proxy.

Sorry to drag this thread back up, but I was curious how the FW shrike wings turned out Alf O'Mega. Do you have any pictures you might be able to post up? I've been holding out on buying the wings cuz of the cost, but if they really do look great, then I'll bite the bullet. Thanks!

So, shamefully, work stalled on this. But I did get hold of a Tyranid prime torso to use for it, which has the crests running down the back. I'll dig out the pieces and take some pictures tomorrow evening.
