Maybe if they manage enough stretches the transition boards would be an option.

Only 6 days to go on the kickstarter.
All the 10mm DZC boards have been unlocked.
Extra pledge options for pix and mix board selections.
They have even done some redesign work on some of the other themes based on backer feedback.
If you haven't got in on this, you only have a few days left!

Yes, I'm chuffed that with the stretch goals met we'll definitely be getting 6 different DZC boards. I cannot wait to see how my city battles will look with these!

Roll on May, eh Mattman?! :D

An new add on has just been added. Plain boards! That opens up endless modelling possibilities!

Now obviously a lot of people would just want to get their hands on those as their own theme, but since G&G have made agreements with several companies based around the current themes, releasing them as their own theme might take people away from purchasing those previous ones.
Still, if you have the spare funds to update your pledge a plain 8x4 board for cheaper than a 6x4 from other manufacturers seems a fair deal.

Possibilities that a $10 sheet of Masonite from home dept doesn't?

I love this project. Boards loaded with rich, detailed texturing and designs that would be hard to replicate on one's, but I cant understand wanting to pay a hundred dollars for something that a ten year old could do with $20 of materials and an hour or so of time.

On the other hand, I know g&g have been getting lots of requests for this, so I commend them on listening to their customers.

Ah, but those $20 of materials won't clip to the rest of the boards and are likely to need work to achieve the right height. They give you the option of making some terrain boards which will fit perfectly with the others from G&G.
I plan on putting some roads into some of them so my epic city can represent a section of the table, which stretches into grasslands.
Don't get me wrong, I have built plenty of terrain, and used plenty of styrofoam sheets, but having your boards made of tough injected moulded plastic is quite appealing.

I dunno Matt, I reckon it will be quite jarring for one theme of board to be clipped to another. I like the idea that you're talking about but I just don't see how it would work in practice; your city and grasslands will be sat next to each other without any transitional area between where they each start and stop. Of course, I hope that you prove me wrong about this!

I think you can get away with it with sci-fi cities. I envision most of them are built by just laying slabs of plasteel down when they need to expand and less about the city naturally expanding. Would also expect most futuristic cities to be walled, so that is one way of covering up the join ;)
Something like this (if you want to convert some of the actual city tiles):

You could even sand off some of the city features on the city boards and then grass part of them.
A couple of things I am going to experiment with will involve using embossed styrene to make part of the plain board look like the city board and then using filler/sand/flock to show the rural part encroaching on the city.
Given that we are expecting to get these around May, I doubt we will see any official transition boards until the end of the year. At least I can have a go at making some, and if they don't work I will just use the plain boards to make my own set of Realms of Battle boards ;D
