Awesome - I really like the colours... and obviously round bases look much better in scifi-armies compared to the square ones.

Mate,

Awesome stuff, fantastic colour schemes you have there. What's next on the list? Pity you missed out on the goodies that were once on offer.

Cheers
Aaron

Hi again!

I have to ask. Could you spell the parts used for the titans. And also, in the pics in front of the titans are what I guess are suppost to be trygons and a carnifex (two weapon arms) Right? How did you make them. Are they based on rippers?

I've been researching nid conversions for a while and they'll be hierodules in front of the hierophants. Typically they are 40k tyranid warrior bodies with a shortened tail and either warrior or termagant legs and hormagaunt or genestealer scything talons. I'd be interested to know about the barbed hierodules weapons though - they look really cool! And also if they're termagant or warrior legs...

Trygons tend to be hormagaunt torsos with a green stuffed tail and scything talons. Forgeworld rippers are a good source of smaller talons or bodies too. Liberal use of green stuff and bits sorts out the rest.

Hierophants use carnifex talons and you can also chop warrior and genestealer talons together to get interesting shapes.

I'm hoping mine turn out half as good as these...

The big ones, Heirophants, are based on either a Warrior or Lictor body. The first used a Warrior body, with a curved piece of wire to make an acute angle/arch between the torso and hip/tail piece, greenstuff topped with 2 spare armor plates from the warrior kit fill the gap. Spare Lictor arms are obviously used for the front claws.
The back legs are normal warrior legs attached with a wider stance and then extended with part of a carnifex scything talon blended into the "hoof". The front cannons are normal warrior Deathspitters, the off-hand one was cut at the elbow and had the upper RIGHT arm replaced with the upper LEFT arm from one of the un-used supporting hands.
The heads are, IMHO, kind of clever. :) The neck is the twin-bladed carnifex tail tip. The blades are cut off and the thick end is attached to the warrior body neck-hole. The narrow end has a warrior face attached, and the blades are reattached facing forward. The underside is bulked out with green stuff and random 'nid bio-morph bits. Flesh-hook bits are bent into curvy shapes and attached to the underside of the torso to finish the look.

The second one (with the curved tail), I decided that since I needed Lictor claws, I'd try to build it out of a complete Lictor kit. So the entire body/tail/legs are from a Lictor, the only Warrior parts used were for the gun-arms, the flesh-hooks and head.

The smaller titans, Barbed and Scythed Heirodules, are based off of Hormagaunts. Though the legs are from Termagants to give a stockier look, and attached with a wider stance. Heads are gaunt heads with the back half removed to echo the small head, no-neck look of the FW models. The barbed'dules guns are made from Fleshborers - the "hand" portion of the gun is removed and the remainder of the gun is attached straight to a cut down stump of arm. The off-hand version follows the same approach, but makes use of the tubes and such on the supporting arm.

Trygons are based off of Gargoyle bodies, as they were already serpentine and looked "smaller" than the Heirodules (since they are supposed to have less DC anyway). Tails were just bent into shape. Heads are from rippers to keep it looking "smaller". Claws are spares from the Hormagaunts and the smaller claws are a combination of rippers and spare fingers/claws that were trimmed off parts used in the other conversions. The un-used gargoyle wings got repurposed for the Harpy/Flying-Hive-Tyrant conversions. Waste-Not, Want-Not!

I think your trygons are the best I ever saw. Totally stealing your method.

I apparently got distracted by actually playing Epic instead of posting pictures. Here's some new stuff from the painting table: a wide shot of my Tau proxies, followed by a close up of some missile-armed Broadside conversions, and finally some new biovores for the tyranids.

The Tau are a work in progress, they are mostly base coated with a first pass of detailing, most need another accent and then washes, and finishing touches on the bases. Tanks are waiting to be mounted on skimming bases similar to the elder, though this time I'm using magnets.

Missile broadsides are built using the spare missile pods from the tanks, just amputate the original rail gun at the elbow, attach the pod, and add a little greenstuff to fill the inside hole on the pod.

The biovores are 15mm Space Demon Nymphs from Khurasan Miniatures.

Oh, and here's some objectives...

Based on 40mm x 1.8mm mdf bases from LITKO. The head ruins (which I use for Elder) are extra basing pieces from Dragon Forge's Forgotten Empires range. The others are, obviously, Tyranid bits, cork and scenic grass tufts.
