Ok so I've tried a first game with the Ne(w)rons army list found here. It was a 3k pts affair against orks. lists used were the following

I sent in the Tesseract Vault hoping the orks would spend their MW Barrage on it, or if I won initiative to Barrage the big guns.

My dougther sneakily added an extra monolih to my maniple ;D

Initiative went to the orks (Black dice are necrons, white are ork dice).

Fearing the Barrage of the Vault the orks started with a dlb with the big blitz.
ImageThe Ork vehicles scored a 2 regular hits and a Zaap hit. The Living metal of the Necron construction saved it from harm and only a BM was placed.

Orks Followed up with retain from the Stormboyz trying an engange action, a bit uncarachteristic they failed. The Warlord across the battlefield however,barked som carfully chosen words across the coms and the stormboyz lost their hesitancy and assaulted the warenginge.

In the ensuing fight only 2 ork units were killed. The stormboyz managed 2 hits in return and another 3 hits were made from the supporting blitz. The living metal proved hard to get through and only one DC was lost on the Tesseract. In the end the orks had +2 and won the roll. The vault being fearless chose to stay put even though being broken.

I then chose to sustain with the Monoliths maniple over on the my left flank on his KoS, I wanted to preemt him assaulting me. I hit with all three cannons and three units died. I followed up with a retain by the Triarch Praetorians. Getting 2 normal and 2 MW hits. Some unlucky rolls on my opponents part saw 4 failed saves and completely missing all attacks back. The last unit died from hackdown. Praetorians consolidated into the building close by.

Orks sustain with the Supa-Stompa mob on the Praetorians clipping the monolith maniple with the Barrage. 3 Praetorians died + 1 obelisk. Breaking both formations. The surviving Praetorian unit fled way back to the forrest on the necron half of the board. Wanting the to finish them, the orks retained with the small blitz and shot at the unit. No hits were scored though. The orks carfully placed themselves within 30 cm of both broken formations.

I shifted flank having no more portals on the left. The monolith phalanx sustained on the closeby big blitz. I scored 3 hits but the ork armour saved 2 so only one vehicle were destroyed.

I tried to retain with the overlords infantry phalanx. Rolling a one forced me to use my reroll which was a 5. Carefully placing the units behind the monoliths as to stay out of site of the overwatching big gunz. 2 Wagons countercharge to place the oddboyz further to the back.

Infantry + support from monoliths saw 4 ork units die. They took 3 Necrons with them. Giving Necron a +4 rosultion score, hacking down the three ork survivors.

Orks want revenge and tries to break the 5 remaining infantry units. Needing one kill to make it. The Fighta-Bommaz were sent in. The piolots were apparently very good for they kill 2 or 3 necron warrior units. The last units withdraws back towards the forrest next to the necron blitz.

I felt Confident the Ghost Arks formation could take the big gunz Barrage without breaking. So I doubled them forward. The Barrage came and with some luck I only lost one warrior unit. Returning fire into the forrest I actually managed to kill 2 big gunz (no odd boyz though).

Immortals retain and moved through the forrest and engage. A brainfart on my part, I didn't factor in the overwatch of the big Warband in the middle who shoot at the immortals and layed a BM. Killing 3 big guns another one goes down to the the supporting ghost Ark formation. Some rather good to hit rolls on the Orks /side saw 3 immortal units go down as well, with the blast marken I recieved earlier this made the assault a lot closer then I'd like. The roll went in my favor though and I won hacking down a few more. Two surviving big guns withdraws towards the cliffs. I did myself break from BM though and withdraw back to the forrest close to my blitz.

I forgot to take photos of the last turn 1 actions. But the were:

Mechanized warband double to the forrest next to the monolith phalanx shooting laying a BM as no hits were scored. Getting into position for turn two.

Pylon went on overwatch.

Night Scythes ground attack small blitz killing a gunwagon.

After that we went to the rally phase, I decided to keep the stalkers in reserve.

Turn 2

Roll for initiative felt rather important for both of us to win this turn. It went to the orks again to my dismay. The mechanized warband in the forrest came charging out, declaring my Monoliths and ghost Ark warriors intermingled. The orks were carefull not to get into b2b with the monoliths (backed of a bit after this photo was taken) so I'd be forced to put my the weaker warriors first. (I didn't want to countercharge into the forrest).

Casualties weren´t actually that high considering all the units involved. This was dead units on both sides. With also the resolution dice rolled (black again being Necrons). Orks had +3 or 4, so won.

I lost a warrior unit + an Ark to hack down and fled back towards the blitz. Monoliths Backed of as well.

Orks retain with the Fighta-Bommaz. They fly in plain view of the Pylon which missed for the second time this game. They proceed to ground attack the Broken Ghost Ark formation. Some bad saves on my part sees 1 warrior and the two remaining Arks go down, which of course means the last unit dies to hack down (or probably beeing Necrons phase out), giving my opponent the BTS victory objective.

I then make an engage action with my Triarch Stalkers out of the broken monolith phalanx formation. Orks decide not to intermingle the Tesseract Vault, necause they want any hits to go on the Stalkers lesser save. The result is predictable with the support attacks from the Vault. The Orks score only 1 hit, which is saved. Only one ork unit survives and it flees back towards the ork board edge.

I did then retain with my Tesseract Vault and took a sustained fire order shooting on the mech. warband. I had quite a lot of luck with my to hit rolls at least against the infantry and I don´t think my opponent made any of his cover saves. 4 ork boyz units, 1 nob and the last grot goes down. Getting a total of 9 BM breaking the formation. They withdraw towards the ork right flank. No picture.

Orks answer with a double from the stompa mob, moving into range of the stalkers.

The supa-stompa armed with 3 soopa-guns shoot at both the stalkers and the Vault. One Stalker is taken out, breaking the formation. No damage is done to the Vault, but it breaks as well, since it had a BM from earlier.

Having only a few activations left the orks choses not to retain. I instead get to activate my rallied praetorians which engage the small blitz in b2b. They easilly kill all the Ork Vehicles.

Seeing no need to retain I let the orks play. The big central warband takes a double action and moves towards the two T&H objectives on my center/left flank. The shoot at the pylon (which before used it´s overwatch to kill a grot ::) ) The Orks get 3 hits from their 17 attacks. The pylon failed one of the saves and breaks.

Moght Scythes comes in and shoots the broken big guns killing one and the other flees the field.

The immortals activate as the last formation of the turn. They take a marshal action and moves closer to the big warband. The shed all BM and returns to full strength.

End Phase
The remaing ork formations all rally.

All necrons rally except the Tesseract Vault and the Pylon. So both warengines stay broken. Turn 3 in next post.

Turn 3

Initiative again went to the Orks. I had been a bit sloppy with my placement of the immortals so the Supa-Stompa could see one unit and he chose to sustain on the unit. The Orks had had it with sustaining though and failed the initiative rolling the dreaded double one (used the Warlord reroll). My opponent chose to shot for his Hold action, two Immortals were killed.

After this we had to take a break. Coming back we I think both had forgot that the Stompas failed their initiative test and the Orks made a retain action with their Fighta-Bommaz and ground attacked the Immortals. 2 More units were killed (inlcuding the Lord) and the formation broke. I chose to move closer to the Big central Warband to the bate them into vasting their activation on a broken activation

He only had two activations left, the two warbands, I wanted to try and take one out. The small warband had 9 units left and 4 BMs. I activated the monolith phalanx, advanced and shot at the warband. One vehicles was destroyed going down to 8 units and 6 BMs.

I retained with my stalkers and engaged the warband. I missed all my attacks, and the orks got three hits in return of which I failed two saves. The last Stalker was duly hacked down.

The Ork player activated his big central warband. I had teleported in my 2nd monolith maniple close by andhe wanted to break it. They took an advance order to get within range of both T&H objectives. The Orks produced 6 hits. My saves were quite good though so only one obelisk died, but the formation of course broke.

My rallied monolith (on the left flank) tried to make an advance move to shoot at the mech. Warband. Having a BM I failed as I rolled a one. Failing would mean becoming broken so I used my reroll. Of course rolling another one so I broke.

The mech. warband change flank and double towards the ork right and my left flank. This was done to contest one of the ork side T&H objectives. He shot the broken Monolith maniple, hoping to kill the monolith and its eternity gate. I don't know if he hit with any shots but I lost no units.

Might Night Scythes ground attack the warband no kills but another BM was layed (so they were one BM from breaking).

End Phase

Stompas rally
Mech Warband rallied rolling 5.

Immortals, Monolith Phalanx, Overlord, Pylon all rally
the 2 Monolith Maniples and the tesseract did not rally.

I had both the blitz and one T&H objective. Orks had both Take and hold objectives and BTS. So we both had 2 victory goals and so the game went to a forth turn.

Turn 4

Orks won the initiative for the forth time and began with activating the Supa-Stompa. Again it was a sustained fire on the overlords warrior phalanx. I think there were 6 warriors units, my opponent had a lot of luck and actually hit all my units wiping them out.

He also destroyed another obelisk from the close by Monolith Maniple.

I then tried to sustain on the mech. warband with my pylon it had a BM and I rolled a 1 so I broke myself.

Fighta-Bommaz tried to break the praetorian or at least place a BM to make them less assault capable. Actually getting two hits but I saved both so stayed unbroken.

Night Scythes ground attacked the mech. warband getting one hit but it was saved.

The big warband wanted to take away my left flank protal and sustained on the broken maniple. 7 hits were scored. The obelisk was destroyed, but the monolith saved all 3 hits it got. LM is really hard.

I activated my praetorians and assaulted the mech. warband. 3 Ork vehicles were destroyed by my 4 units, but in return I lost 2 units. I had +1 before the roll. Orks however rolled 6 and I only a 4 so they won. Both formations were broken though due to BMs.

After withdrawing

I then activated my immortals and doubled through the eternity gate of the monolith next to the big central warband. I moved to take the T&H objective on the ork right flank. This was a silly mistake I accidently thought (it was late) my monolith (maniple) close to his blitz (behind the house in the former picture) was not broken, but it was of course in fact not rallied.

I then activated the last formation my monolith phalanx and dbl towards the T&H objective on the ork left flank. I also popped up and put a BM on the stompas.

End Phase

I rallied the tesseract and the immortals but the monolith maniples and the pylon stayed broken.

Orks rallied nothing.

We counted objectives and realized my mistake that the monolith was broken, giving me only 1 victory goal T&H, we both thought this was silly as I could just as easily have portaled out of the monolith closer to the ork blitz and taken that objective instead. My opponent didn't want to win that way, so we counted them as having moved for the blitz instead, making the final Necron score two fulfilled goals, T&H and BLITZ.

Orks had, like last turn, T&H and BTS.

So in the end it was a 2:2 draw. We counted VPs and Necrons got 1805 pts. Orks got 1775 pts so it was very close and a true draw. Image Image
