I've recently fallen in love with Dirtside 2 and wondering why on earth I hadn't come across it sooner! I think the chit thing is going to be great, but still waiting for a copy I won on ebay to arrive.

I think you could do a dice system, but you'd have to be careful not to bog the game down with a nasty chart that needed referencing all the time. I've seen some chart conversions that replicate the exact damage chit probabilities, but I think these look a little slow. I'd come up with something that is similar, but works simpler with dice.

The great advantage of doing something like DS2 is people could make up their own units to mix in with the "official" stats you've done for your own line of miniatures. Or heck, even do their own version of them.

What would be great is to have DS2 updated with a chitless system (makes it more accessible for everyone), have content added so cover most 6mm genres, and have it all in one place!

BTW, been watching this thread for sometime and your sculpts are amazing. Keep up the great work!

Hi!

The FMA, system (I attached the file to the post above), is more an opposed roll system using polyhedral dice along a continuum from worst to best (1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12). Better stuff get a higher die, not more bonuses which would make it a clunky system.

This way you roll your weapon (and targeting system) with one die against the evasive capabilities of the target (also determined by a die).

Very simple to see hits and misses, penetrating hits versus the ones that don't. More importantly the differences in tech, weaponry and morale/training are well represented via the die types.

It even does the jams, disabled and immobilized. :)

If we want to talk further or this I suggest to branch of a thread as not to clutter Deacon's thread on his marvelous stuff. :)

Also wanted to comment, you have said all along how your goal is to eventually come out with your own rules set to use your figs with, and you obviously have at least some of a universe and background worked out for your figs. It would be kinda cool if you could put up on your website (and here) a brief overview of that background and the various armies you envision for it, or at least the ones you have miniatures for already. I know, I'm curious about it.

Just a thought.

I'm glad you like your minis!

I have tons of fluff written up, but I'm still trying to find out how best I'd like to share it - but here's a brief run-down of what I have started on, and what exists only as concepts.

So far - We've got:

Avians - Bird-like race who was able to colonize planets all over the galaxy using a complex series of planet-based portals. They are the only known race to occupy more than a single planet without the use of space craft. The Stygian emerged without warning from their portals after thousands of years of use and began a wholesale slaughter of any Avian they encountered. Before all of the Avian worlds were consumed, the Avian Chiefs decided to destroy the rest of their portals, which stranded the remaining Avians on their own worlds, each separated by vast cosmic distances.

The Grud - These short, hairy, boisterous, and extremely hardy humanoids travel the galaxy from end to end in incredibly large mining and trading vessels. They are known for their wealth, short tempers, and their strict code of honor and conduct. They make trade agreements with every intelligent race they encounter that will entertain them, and tend to stay out of conflict between their many allies. When their resources are threatened, or when their honor or kin come under assault, the Grud unleash the might of their military which features some of the mightiest and destructive weapons and war-machines the galaxy has ever seen.

The Legion - The Legion are a new threat among the stars, and they pose an incredible danger to anyone within their reach. Consisting of countless individual races, genetically integrated and engineered by the "Founders" into a deadly mass of flesh and metal, the horde that is the Legion travel the void, forcibly merging any race they encounter into their own.

The Lyceum - The Lyceum is actually an incalculably vast collection of data, stored and transmitted between thousands of space faring vessels and planet-based repositories. The Lyceum has the apparent mission of collecting and storing the knowledge and record of the entire galaxy and the races that populate it. When it must interact with physical beings, the Lyceum will animate and send forth automatons to act on its behalf. While initial contact with the Lyceum often results in incredible exchanges of information, eventually lines are crossed as secrets are forcibly extracted from the races it encounters - as the appetite for information the Lyceum possesses cannot be denied or resisted. When conflict turns to war, the Lyceum sends forth nightmarish robotic parodies of robed humanoid figures to fight in its name, and ancient, terrifying war-machines.

Okami Technocracy Combine - Leaving the chaos of the Terran factions behind, the Okami have traveled to the far reaches of the galaxy on enormous cosmic arks, that act as home-worlds for their people. Stressing personal improvement in all aspects in life, the Okami have developed what they consider to be the pinnacle of human evolution and society. Trading freely with many alien races in both resources and ideas, the Okami have mastered levels of technology far beyond anything their Terran brethren can imagine.

Pharaon - The Pharaon are an ancient race, who colonized many worlds and helped advance fledgling societies in their infancy, including ancient humans. Worshiped as gods by many of those that they have come into contact with, the Pharaon exist in this universe as beings of pure energy - having evolved past their physical forms long ago. Their intervention in matters of the galaxy often seem random and without meaning, and they guide the fate of many through both subtle manipulation and direct force. In battle, the Pharaon "possess" ancient machines and mechanical bodies, often left inert for centuries between use.

The Sisterhood - Oddly enough, the mighty Sisterhood began its existence as a charity and humanitarian aide organization - providing medical care, food, and supplies to the countless innocent victims of wars waged all across Terran space. Through countless donations and offerings from those who believe in their cause, the Sisterhood has grown mighty and influential - enforcing the Galactic Terran Accords of War on any warring Terran factions, and protecting innocent civilians against alien and human oppressors.

Sectnids - Sectnids are intelligent insect-like beings of varying degrees of evolution and societal advancement. Being born from the birth-spore of incredibly vast space-dwelling creatures known as the Sectnid Queens, the more intelligent Sectnids are driven by an undeniable urge to take to the stars in search of their creators, and to protect them above all else as they drift slowly through the void from one star system to the next, which inevitably leads to conflict. In battle, Sectnids use conventional weaponry along side the natural armament of their lesser evolved, and often massive kindred.

Stygians - A race of incredibly vile and cruel shadow-like humanoids which originate in another dimension once used by the Avians for long-distance travel. They seem to absorb light, rather than reflect it, making them appear as black silhouettes of their true forms in our dimension - except for their eyes, which burn with a stark white light that appears to "smoke". Some of their kind feature aspects of their foul god, the Viscera queen, such as insect-like pincers and deadly spines. The Stygian are free to terrorize our own dimension, thanks to the still-active portals located on the lost Avian home worlds.

Tzacol - The Tzacol (Tah-Coal) are believed to the be the oldest race in the galaxy, occupying a vast number of worlds around the galactic core. While Tzacol ruins and artifacts can be found throughout known space, it is believed that this now reclusive reptilian race has opted for an existence of peace and inward development within their incredibly well defended region of space. Tzacol technology far exceeds that of any other known race, seeming almost "magical" in function and affect. Those who dare encroach upon the Tzacol domain are quickly eradicated by the awesome might of the Tzacol war-castes.

These represent the factions that I have a desent amount of fluff into. There's also the Hellborn, which feature demon-like monsters and their insane worshipers, a race of rouge super-humans who now wage war upon their creators, various human factions, and a few others.

As for rules - I can't comment on dirtside, as I've never played it. But I'm willing to look into it.

Well-done fluff. I love it.

I'm still nicknaming the Tzacol faction "The Frogulan Star Empire", if you don't mind :)

I think Tzacol is Frogulan for "Frogulan Star Empire". ;)

I love the background! It's nice to have a background to work with so we can know what kind of look and unit types to aim for in each empire.

There's actually a bit more to their evolution, like how they were targeted by multiple Terran factions at once in an attempt to remove their influence from galactic affairs before they decided to militarize, but I'll leave such details for later - in a nut shell, they make sure that the Terran factions use their soldiers to kill other soldiers, not commit genocide on innocents, and that any defenseless human population that comes under alien attack is protected.

They still offer humanitarian aide though - using an army of volunteers not willing or able to fight. Males were barred from fighting or leadership positions long ago - as the Sisterhood believes human males are incapable of handling power without becoming corrupted by it.

Quick update - I went out and purchased a digital scale, allowing me to more accurately weigh my products, resulting in lower shipping weights across the board. This means significantly cheaper shipping for all! :D
