I've just started reading my copy of WD279 (that came surprisingly early) and its got a Battlefleet Gothic section! The bit I've read show a new admiral opening his new box, waxing lyrical about the game and its campaign possibilities (well this is GW :) ) and then designing his first two 1,000 point fleets for Chaos and the Imperials. See below...

Emperor Class Battleship with Admiral
Mars Class Battlecruiser
Overlord Class Battlecruiser
Dictator Class Cruisers x2
3 Sword Class Frigates

Despoiler Class Battleship withWarmaster & MoT
Styx Class Heavy Cruisers x2
Murder Class Cruisers x2
3 Iconoclast class destroyers

Is it just me, but both fleets seem to be illegal, too many high end cruisers  ??? You'd think someone would double check these things!

BTW, has anyone else not received Gothic mag 13 yet?

Well, I got Gothic 13 a while ago, but I have to wait for the new WD (I think that it is out this Thursday). The article seems very GW, basically a thinly disguised advert. Still, if it is Gothic I will let them off this time!

Not only do the fleets seem illogial, they are actually extremely illegal! You need at least two cruisers for each Heavy Cruiser, and at least two cruisers and a heavy for the Battleship. One of the Styx's should not be there, and the Battleship in a 1000 point fleet just smacks of GW trying to sell an expensive mini! And the Imperial fleet is even worse. Two cruiser does NOT allow two Battlecruisers and a Battleship by any stretch of the imagination!

And then they wonder why army lists seem to made by people with no concern for the fluff. If they cant even stick to the rules, what chance have we got. It comes to something when we actually play their games better than they do.  :l

I havent seen the WD, but this sucks.  Its not even as though its a hard thing to remember.  2 Cruisers per battle cruiser, 3 per battleship.

They could have still got the battle ships in following the rules.  Thats just slack.

I dont even see how a story line could support it. And I',m sure they have enough ships to choose legal fleets.  Its rather dissapointing.

There's no storyline, its just a double page spread about the guy choosing what cruisers to build and then adding on a squadron of escorts and a battleship to each side to make two 1,000 fleets. If you want to be really picky, there are also mistakes in the about the game section immediately before it. It was lifted from the WD when BFG originally appeared and says there's a Gothic battle report later in the issue and the Eldar are coming next month!

Also mentioned in the Fanatic update section is the Tau warfleet which debuts Sept 2004. There will be at least six classes of ship ranging from escorts to colony ships (roughly cruiser size). Kroot warspheres will also make an appearence.

The final part of the BFG coverage is a section on the space war that erupted around the Armageddon system, mostly background with a brief bit on creating your own campaign using the rulebook scenarios.

Ha ha     How lazy, thats exactly what I'd do.  :D

Oh well, I was hoping it was going to be another report.  Should've known better.

The article said "starting in September next year", which would be 2004, hence the original comment.

However, I've just re-read the article and it also says "'But September is almost a year away!' I hear you cry". That makes it seem like Sept 2003, which makes a lot more sense. What I think has happened was this article was writen last year (maybe for the newsletter?), so it that case September next year would be 2003. I need to make sure I pay more attention in the future :{ and Fanatic really need to stop the cut'n'paste errors!

Actually it is Sep. 2003 , I read it on the Games Workshop BFG forums coming straight from one of the moderators. For those who wish to see it themselves the link is here.
