Just to keep you in suspense a little longer, magnetising the GUC and some basing photos...

A 5x5mm magnet was glued into a hole in a 25mm disc and then a whacking great hole drilled into the underside of the GUC so that it would sit onto the base. This made for a really solid join and it sits in place in the box very well. He's not going to be used on Saturday (I have a mostly base-coated Mortarion) but while I was drilling stuff...

Next, building up the bases with Plasticine and then a layer of Vallejo Sandy Paste for texture.

Undercoated batch plus some bases already coloured.

Army list progress after the undercoating. The 'needs banner' comments are because I'm slightly short of stands with characters in so I'm going to do some banners on paperclip banner poles to ID all characters. As all the bases have magnets in this should work quite nicely!

Bilious, thy name is Green! I'd forgotten what a lovely colour and consistency the old round-pot-white-lid era Bilious Green had over a good white undercoat.

Image

Almost fully base-coloured Plaguereaper. The photo colours aren't quite accurate, I'll try and get a better photo under proper lights later on. The 'red' areas are actually dark orange and the green is more pistachio.

First Defiler in the same state, the white disk in the middle will probably end up bronzy or orange. The dollops of goo are still white as they'll need to be bright but I'm not sure what colour to make them yet. The tentacles are likely to end up a brownish-green like the first of the painted centipedes.

Gribble gribble gribble. The rest of the Infestation and some more Plaguebearers, all with base colour and some washes/glazes.

Group shot! This is all the models for the 4k force, unfortunately I've found another six models that need basing properly...

The amazing Technicolor™ Plaguereaper! The colour still isn't quite right in the photo, but it's better than the earlier photos. The green in the bowl is going to be changed anyway, even though it looks much better in the flesh. In fact, it'll all shift a bit once I start shading and weathering the models, but that won't be happening until after Saturday...

Really like the old school garish colour scheme! Takes me right back to the glory days of SM2!

The green will end up less vivid once it's been shaded...

Anyway, I managed to get hold of a Cryx Bonejack at club last night and it's looking like a very promising chassis - not for this Saturday though!

The detailing is very reminiscent of Jes Goodwin's sculpts so the Reaver head and Dark Eldar gun fit very nicely from a stylistic point of view.

I also managed to pick up a Cryx starter cheaply on eBay which means in the long run I may have to look at running a small Nurglesque AMTL force...

Image

The Warjack on the right is way too top-heavy for my tastes, so I'm thinking about replacing the legs with track units to both make it lower and to give it a proper feeling of stability. The arms would obviously be replaced with guns.

You'll be waiting a while before seeing that one painted.

Basic painting for this Saturday is pretty much done, in theory there's just some purple detailing on two stands of Havocs left. However the second Plaguereaper is still just white undercoat and Bilious Green - with painting so quickly I really don't want to mess it up so will probably use a spare Baneblade as a painted proxy.

Although there's a couple of terrain pieces that could do with some more paint if I have time and energy tomorrow.

No photos yet as I've been busy painting rather than cropping/uploading etc...
