Hello all.

I recently completed my IG army (and thanks to dafraca (sp.) my marine company).

I am now in the process of building my Imperial fleet, I am a BFG virgin BTW.

I Purhcased 3 cruiser 'kits' from GW Store Croydon (Who have a 'new' shelve full of the stuff under the novels if anyone interested!) on sat (29/03) and I would like to ask what is a goo 'combo' of ships to build, and are squadrons worthwhile?

I'v already painted a Dictator (the Lord Solar Macharius!), but I would like some advice before gluing the rest!

Thanks All.

Greetings.

I shal give all the advice I can.  Please note, that I'm an Eldar and Ork player primarily, so my oppinions and advice are usually from facing the Imperial ships (though I do have a large fleet at my disposal).

A Dictator is a good start.  You need to know what type of a force you would prefer now.

With Imperials, you have long range frontal fire, and a high armoured prow.  This results in a fleet that should sit back and lay heavy firepower in the approaching enemy to break them up/weaken them.

Have you read the De'aynes guide?  It has some info there (to be expanded).

For starters, I would recommend building a Tyrant, Lunar and Gothic.  For the battlecruiser I would recommend the Overlord.

Cant talk much at the moment (at work) so hopefully others can expand.

I think I'll do a lunar and a gothic next, as they both have serious Torpedeo firepower (and I like the look of them!).

Thats leaves three more to select!!

WoW!, the overlord carries some serious firepower, hmm....

Yeah, my GW store has just started stocking some more BFG. May have to get some.  :D

Anyway, I would recommend a Mars Battlecruiser for two reasons - Nova Cannon and Launch Bays. A good mix.

Also, Lunars are good and get some more Dictators!!!

Report back when you have assembled them!!

Cheers

Chris

Thanks for the info all.

Well I have two lunars (I like the look), One gothic and One dictator, I now also have an overlord.

With a Mars and a sword squadron still to paint.

Now I am going for a battleship on Sat, whats a good 'complement' to this?

The retribution 'gunboat' or the Emperor 'all rounder'?

Also, are cobras any good?, I have visions of strike waves of the buggers hitting the oppo with torpedeo wave after wave!

Thanks Again!

I have been on the wrong end of a squadron of Cobras far too often. I can tell you that they can be really good. My opponent will sometimes squadron them with a Dauntless and this is a nasty combination. I would recommend a squadron of them, and escorts in general are what you should be thinking about now that you have a few cruisers.

Yeah Cobras are great- I have two squadrons in my fleet, and will be getting some more soon.. Torps are a great weapon, especially if you save them until a really oppotune moment... :D

Cobras are good, but never, Never, NEVER!!!! take them in a SM fleet, they will get ripped to pieces.

As for a Battleship, I think they are both good. Look at your fleet and decied if is is shooty or carrier like. If it is shooty, take the Retribution, If it is carrier, take the Emperor.

But in the end the choice is up to you.

How may points are you aiming for BTW?

Cheers

Chris

Chris.

I'll be aiming for 3000 points or so, So at the moment I am halfway there, about 1600, add a battleship and a few more escort squadrons, then I can get 'pcky' and choose things I like!

I also have some chaos boys to do next, there about 2000 points. And at some point I will even play this game!

Inquisitor,

My imperial fleet will also be about 3000pts if I ever get it all painted (I have about 2000pts painted and 1000pts unpainted or unassembled)

In my fleet I have a Retribution and an Emperor. I think two battleships are good in a 3000pt fleet.

Cheers

Chris

I have 2 Battlecruisers, 4 Cruisers and 3 Light Cruisers. And some escorts.

Also from the bits I have left over I plan on making 6 (yes 6) Jovian class Carriers, for my future "carrier" based fleet. I was going to use the Endeavour carrier version, but as we won't have one of them for years, I'll just have to wait...

Cheers

Chris
