Interesting concept, may be difficult for me to break the habit of a lifetime and think in those terms because I've always taken the battlefield terrain/mniatures scale rather literally!

Takes a powerful mind to imagine a bunch of superhuman giants squeezing into a rhino, yes? Plus, even with the literal (or rather undefined) old way of not seeing things, distances were far from "realistic" for many weapon systems.

Instead of following the path of true scale believers, I have opted to follow the more sane abstraction route. For me it is 6mm. Heroic. Sort of. Depends on...

The dimensions of a Rhino relative to even true-scale Marine models are actually about the same as the dimensions of actual people compared to a Bradley APC. The vehicles are already true-scale (in 40K, anyway).

Admittedly, the Epic vehicles may be a little less proportionate. :P

Mm, yes. I have no clue about recent 40K embiggenment of vehicles and was referring to epic. Actually I was referring to old epic where the likes of the plastic rhino and the thunderbrick roamed free.

I'm no expert on the fluff, but just always assumed that the Imperium employed technology not dissimilar to that used in the TARDIS.... :D

I suppose I never thought about it enough, and as I never played more than a few games of 40k never really thought about the range issue either. I just accepted it all...

I was talking original RT-era Rhinos vs modern Marines that have then been made even bigger. Recent 40K embiggerment not a consideration.

OK was bored at work today so hammered out a quick document outlining a basic "How-To" guide for porting Epic to EW and other ponderings and suggestions for list balancing opportunities. In addition, I followed my own guide and ported the Codex Marines list as well. Give a look and tell me what you think. ;D

EDIT: This are outdated. Current files are in the OP while these are here for archival purposes

Remember that aircraft are a lot more powerful in EW, you may need to up the points to compensate or lower the effectiveness of the weapons.

Consider giving the drop pods an orbital bombardment attack instead of creating a new ability. The deathwind pods are basically a form of orbital artillery anyway :-D

Looks good so far chap, I'll have a more thorough look when I wake up.

Yeah that's one aspect where I am less confident in the porting. However at least everyone is equally over the top :D I figure there's a few dozen games to get under ye olde' belt to determine just how far off the rails it can go. I expect that likely the old Epic formation cost will probably even out to a single sortie in practice. It's a bit harder to work out the equivalent aerospace and AA needs of the units due to the different approaches to air power between the games (for instance all those AA Heavy Bolters don't really work out to anything real in EW).

Ohhhh that's a good idea. :-D Also anything performing drops and bombardments should be listed in One-Shot as well, no?

Great! Looking for any feedback on approach and / or ideas.

Air transport is effectively a one-shot anyway so I don't think it is entirely necessary. Just bundle the transports and the bombardment into the same formation so people don't put the transport pods in one place and the death wind pods in another.

True but needed for Battle Barge and Strike Cruisers.

Unless you assume the cruisers are in orbit? Do you really need to use a strike cruiser model on the table for drop pods?
