You could well be right Nitpick. They've been painted up with "Bloodletter glaze" which the guy in GW sold to me. I like how it makes the red really red, but I'm not exactly delighted with how it isn't highlighting the detail. I'm thinking of taking Jimmy's advice and trying out the purple rinse...

Oh, and I'm still trying to find out what the original paint scheme was for the Khorne Juggers... Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?....

Feeling almost proud of these! I know they aren't a patch on some of the paint jobs around here, but this is pretty good for me!

Cannons look great.

Dunno about the new GW glazes, no idea why they'd think you'd want a bright red glaze applied over something that was already a flat bright red though (eg nothing to flatten). I'd have gone with something darker, black wash myself (but my khrone are a deeper red, yours have the brighter old school look) or purple/green wash as was suggested earlier in thread, and then re-highlight over that if it darkens it down too much.

Cheers Apoc!

I'll not make the mistake of asking again, I'm just going to stick to the advice I'm given here as I know I can trust it. I wish I'd just stuck to my guns now and insisted on the purple or green wash!

Test it on something small first. I haven't tried using green/purple on red, but on angron you would want to watch it doesn't pool too much in the large flat areas such as the wings. In terms of the new GW paints 'wash' = 'shade', I think.

All this talk of angron makes me want to paint an angron :(

Washing those cannons made them turn out great, Bissler. I think you are on the way to becoming a pro-painter. ;) Cannot make any comments on the new GW paints and washes. When they advertised their newest ranges, I was already in the Vallejo camp. People say that Privateer Press are good as well.

When I paint 6mm, I try to think in terms of contrast. The details are so small, you have to exaggerate it a little. For instance, your bronze details. You could try to apply a mixture of black/brown wash and just a little bit of water. That should deepen the shade just a little. On the most raised parts, you could mix bronze with silver and just apply it in certain distinct parts.

If you want to try a little something for your red, you could try a dark wash (earthshade?) to create a shade towards the cannon. Then you could apply a highlight to the edges of the red triangles. Avoid mixing red with white unless you are painting Slaanesh. Try a mix of the red you used, just a little bit of the wash you used and some reddish brown, apply with a fine detail brush along the edge.

Also remember, washes that turn out bad can almost always be repaired with water.

Good luck,

/Fredmans

That's praise indeed Fredmans, thank you very much! Thanks also for the tips, I've actually got some earthshade so may try that out. Just to be sure, I take it you meant for me to apply that to the brass section of the cannon?

Cheers!

I've never tried a green wash over red, although it should work if colour theory is correct, I'd avoid purple as it's not a direct opposite (I have tried a purple wash over yellow which theoretically should work, and ended up looking like crap)

You can get away with brown, it works on pretty much anything, just be ready to brighten up the raised areas again as brown washes can make things look muddy and dirty, I've used a brown wash on my imperial fists and had to touch up almost all of the yellow... worth it for the end result though!

you're moving in the right direction, good luck!

Hello! I have been very slowly chipping away at my Chaos forces (more pics to follow soon!) but am getting close to the point where I am going to paint up my Chaos Juggers. So I thought I'd renew my call to the community to see if anyone has any pics of painted up juggers because I am trying to work out how to paint them. Looking at them, they look like some kind of elephant-type beasts covered in armour... Is this correct?
Cheers!

I've got some Juggers in my Word Bearers thread in the Tale of Epic Gamers. I went for a Bronze metal beast look for the Juggernaughts.

Thanks for the tip-off Llamahead, nice Juggers! I think my biggest problem with the Juggers is that I can't quite work out what exactly they are! Metal-clad beasts seems to be the answer!

Think I will be using some of that brass paint again, probably with a mix of red. Still working on the war machines first - have now finished my three Tower of Skulls, cannot believe the detail on these Chaos miniatures! It's rewarding though 'cause they look quite smart!
