Stay Tuned!

Be careful - you're looking for angel investors, and when people give money upfront, carnage ensues if things don't happen RIGHT NOW!

When the Legion goes to war, it is the Overseers that enforce the founders' will upon the teeming masses of battle constructs. It is theorized that Overseers are able to receive telepathic orders from the founders directly, which they convey to the creatures under their charge through pheromones, psychic dominance, and simple brute force.

Overseers are massive creatures, standing over ten feet tall. They have two sets of arms, with one ending in the massive crushing claws often seen among Legion battle constructs. The other set of arms feature 3-fingered hands, which they use to wield a variety of weapons from swords and whips to long range heavy weaponry.

I lack tentacles. Nice job, though.

LOL :) - I have always been a strong believer in need driving innovation...

Here's how it would work - I got a rough estimate from a bronze caster for $500.00 to cast up the Tartarus. I'd start a kick starter for it, and if the goal was reached, say $650.00 for all the costs involved in production, everyone who chipped in the retail price ($45-50) would get one when they are ready.

As soon as humanly possible! I have new 3D prints coming back from Shapeways, and I'm still working to find a reliable caster for mass production. The Tartarus is a much bigger and far more expensive project - I'm still working out the details on how to get it made...

I hope to make many more super heavy vehicles - but they may have to wait to see how feasible the Tartarus is.

As for the Grud versions - it will likely be the same kit, with a few different parts to give it a distinctive viking-like feel. I may experiment with that next...

it's a real ballache, but have you thought about making your own mould and casting the tartarus yourself out of resin?

you can get great results without expensive pressure kit if you're willing to fiddle around and accept a good few duds until you get the hang of it, it would save a good deal of cash on shipping (both to customers AND from the casters) if it wasn't made from metal

on the other hand, resin casting is a load of faff, it smells, is messy, potentially hazardous (fumes, irritants) and can be quite time consuming (especially if you've got any children running about the place)

just an option to consider....

I'll chime in here since I've done some work with resin. Two words - pressure pot. A pressure pot is absolutely required in the process - you stir the resin components (Parts A & B) and you create bubbles. The resin begins curing and these bubbles do not have time to rise to the surface, and are therefore trapped in the hardened resin. Even worse, they get trapped around undercuts and on the facings of your product. This wasted resin costs you money you will not be able to recover (short of increasing prices) and, even worse, it costs you valuable time. I'm sure you have a real job - do you want to spend your free time casting duds? I didn't think so.

You're in the US, so you can buy a cheap paint pressure pot, some fittings, and a compressor, and you're good to go. Again, it's extra up front, but well worth the smooth results you'll get in your final product. The pressure squeezes the bubbles down to a point where they are no longer a concern. In addition, it will help push the liquid resin into tight spots that you might not be able to fill otherwise. The pressure pot is an invaluable resource to a resin caster.

And this doesn't cover molds, degassing your molds, vacuum pumps, etc.

Personally, resin casting is extremely easy - I don't know what resin these other guys have used, but the stuff I get is pretty much odor free and can be eyeballed for measuring. The molds are the pain in the butt, and even they really aren't that hard, just time consuming and a bit messy.

Of course, all of this is a moot point if you outsource. ;)

I've never had any trouble with tiny bubbles in my resin, I've had large ones which take out half the model, but I find the detail is reproduced pretty well....

I have never tried the full set of gear - vaccum and preassure stuff. Just manual mixing 50-50 resin and using a syringe-thing to push it into the molds. Horribly messy when I did it. Bubbles everywhere. Metal was so much easier. But that might just be me.
