Hi!

I would mind the high price if at least you got a lot for the price, as well as a pricing structure that "concords" with the amount of metal in the package. I hate when they price things according to "popularity".

I find it funny as time passes and certain GW realities become more clear some of you are begining to sound like me.... :;):

I guess you've been "primarcharized".  :D

I think that this is the start of a disturbing trend...Instead of trying to maximize a new player base, GW is attempting to push Epic towards its 'normal' pricing structure for the rest of its lineup.  Unfortunately for us, Epic doesnt have the tremendous player base that the rest of the line does.  So, with high prices discouraging new players,  sales will be slow. Im sorry, I, or anybody in my group for that matter, would simply play something else rather than cough up the $160+  PER ARMY to play Epic Armageddon.  And with the news that the Mail Order Archives will possibly (not confirmed) stop selling OOP Epic stuff, I get even more pessimistic that I will ever see the rerelease of my other army , Chaos.
I have got to stop, this is depressing to no end.

Um... not to rain on anyone's parade, but that is simple supply and demand.  Popularity means the producer can charge higher prices.  I don't understand why GW and hobbyists should be immune to basic laws of economics.

I'm not trying to be a jerk.  I just don't understand this at all.

Neal is correct from an economic standpoint ... unfortunately ... :{ ? I just called G/W US and no more Epic Archive will be sold after the week of 16 Feb.04 (according to the Troll I talked to). ?So we will have to wait and see, for sure. ?But I think this move forces new Epic players to buy the higher priced E:A models. ?And that may mean for guys like me, to buy the new stuff, I have to buy whatever is in the pack and sell the extras ... ?Again this all bodes poorly for us and Epic. ? But we may have to wait and see and in the mean time ... buy what you may need to cover your tail ! ? :(

That assumes that you can 'force' a new player to do anything.  As I said before, if I was a new player with no pieces whatsoever, I would simply find something else to play.  I personally think that GW's arrogance is stupid, from a business point of view.  Instead of having a cheaper fringe game that could attract potential buyers that would possibly buy into the other, more expensive GW products, they have NO entry level stuff at all!!  The attitude here is apparently, "well, we have to do this for some reason, but we'll make sure it can't possibly make any money."  Sigh.

Sorry for ranting.

Hi!

One thing anyone dealing with GW must understand, whether from the customer or retailer end, is that GW defines "success" in terms of selling a whole lot of product at the high prices of their flagship games. IF a game doesn't sell in those terms and fails, its not worth their while. They are large enough to not NEED to make specialist games at all. I doubt if not for Jervis there wouldn't even be a fanatic games.

I realize this is a vicious cycle. IF you price epic high, they wont buy it and it will fail. But GW wont price it lower because its not worth their time and money since they have games where people will pay virtually anything.

People will spend and tolerate high costs for 40k and fantasy, but not for any fanatic game.

Wishful thinking and hope epic will survive (which is rampant with the giddyness of the release of the new epic) is all well and good, but it doesn't change what people are willing to pay for a "second tier" game and dubious support.

Hi!

I just hope those "minimums" Jervis spoke of are reached. I hope Jimbo is right and they are underestimated the sales and stocks are small thus giving GW the perception epic CAN make money.

Actually they're not very good capitalists either. Instead of thinking about NEW ways to make profit they are only able to come up with the s.o.s: rise the prices of 40k and FB. It's going to backfire on them sooner or later. Then again, maybe not. The only thing humanity has in abundance is stupidity.  :blues:

It must be frustrating to be Jervis. Work hard and see the results be buried in management for all eternity.  :blues:

I'll bet dollars to donuts that they have a solid idea of the elasticity of demand and have a whole horde of accountants and consultants calculating where on a price/sales graph they will see the maximum profit.

It's always all about the money, but $34.00 USDs for 4 Metal Land Raiders, IIRC ?  ???  "Fascinating !" :L

Well if you look at the costs in terms of how many points you get per pound, land raiders are the same as the other tanks:

Land raiders: 33 points per pound
Rhinos: 0 points per pound
Whirldwinds\hunters: 33 points per pound
Predators: 33 points per pound

The best value item by far is the SM infantry box at 127 points per pound.
