Having just seen the news about Zombo stepping down as the Necron AC, I thought I'd best bump this to see if he's still interested in carrying on his work here. I would hate to see this list stagnate before getting approved status.

I have game resullts & thoughts from before and during the forum downtime but haven't had too much spare time to throw my thoughts together here.

Well in the event he can't/doesn't/won't to AC Sisters list then I think you would be a great choice to Sub AC the list. Or maybe Kealios?

Whilst I would, if necessary, I would rather wait to see what Mr Z says. It's his baby after all, along with the Genestealer list he had planned for his Hive supplement.

I'll send him a PM.

boom. we have a ground attack fighter:

Image

Quote:
The Avenger is a dedicated strike fighter, intended to conduct high-speed, low-level attacks on ground targets, with armoured vehicle formations and high-value strategic assets such as munitions dumps forming its principal prey. The Avenger Strike Fighter boasts firepower that exceeds most other Imperial aircraft of its size, and its particular reputation as a tank-killer is due to the Avenger bolt cannon it carries.

The Avenger is an ancient design, believed to originate on Ancient Terra sometime during the Age of Strife. It was adopted by forces loyal to the Divine Saint Sebastian Thor during the bloody wars of faith and schism now called the Age of Apostasy. Its effectiveness is such that it is now a staple of any Imperial Navy air support mission, holding a glamour of holy import in the wider Imperium. The Avenger is often specifically requested by the Adeptus Sororitas should they require close support in their purgations,

The Avenger Strike Fighter is a finely-detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Daren Parrwood. The kit contains two crew figures and a fully detailed cockpit interior, and the two lascannons supplied with this kit can both be supplemented and replaced with other Forge World Imperial Navy weapons. Full rules for the Avenger can be found in the recently released Imperial Armour Aeronautica, and the kit is available to pre-order here for despatch from Friday 27th July.

Navy ally - but noted links to the sisters.

The model comes armed with two Lascannon, a rear mount Heavy Stubber, and an Avenger Bolt Cannon which, from Warseer, is Range 36" S6 AP3 Heavy 7. Perhaps BlackLegion can correct this if it proves wrong.

Something like:

Figter/Bomber Ar 5+ FF - CC -

Avenger Cannon 30cm 2x AP4+/AT5+, FxF
Twin Lascannon 30cm AT4+/AA5+, FxF
Heavy Stubber 15cm AA6+, Rear

It does surprise me how the Avenger Cannon is best against light vehicles and heavy infantry instead of being a true antitank weapon, but I guess it simply doesn't take after it's namesake.

Just a quick note to say that I am going to continue to develop this list, along with the genestealer cult and Leviathan lists. Apologies for my absence, real life is a cruel mistress...

Yay!

@SG: Does the Avenger cannon not have any AA capability? Makes it a really weak fighter choice otherwise.

I may as well add some feedback here from recent games.

Dominions: tried them out recently. Thought I'd bump the unit strength up and added 2 Immolators, a Repressor & a rhino, but this invited an artillery barrage on turn 1 in a game against guard. I thought this had put them out of the game but clever use of 'scout' and a march move, laying dominion breadcrumbs, managed to get the unit into the fight where it later performed resonalbly well.
Only problem I had with them(and this is a similar issue I have with repentia) is suppression tends to affect any transports added to the formation quite quickly, making rhinos a much more attractive choice.

The new superheavies haven't proved too overpowered. The cathedral has done resonably well to inconvenience Eldar and the invulnrable save has saved it from death by shadowsword on more than one occasion. The chapels have become a great AT distraction, improving the performance of the Exorcist fm, but have rarely gotten close enough to use their deadliest weapons.

Tried a game or two without penitent engines, whilst they're great to have, I didn't miss them.

Not felt any desire to take the fraternis militia and the redemptionists.

The one game I used lightnings they performed well, it was against Eldar so I didn't expect much but used defensively I did take out their vampire over 2 turns and most of the nightwings a turn later. This sounds great but the NWs went on CAP turn 1 so couldn't intercept me when my CAP chased after their Vampire. The nightwings were on ground attack after that. The long range didn't really come up.

*Shrug* Sure, why not? I'm just throwing stats out there. I'm assuming it's like the Avenger Cannon on the A-10; it's possible to use in AA, but not terribly effective due to the fixed mount and low maneuverability airframe it's mounted on. If the need is there and it doesn't contradict any fluff, give it a 6+ per shot.

That said, the Avenger [aircraft] is pretty clearly a CAS oriented aircraft, and not a Fighter/Interceptor. Expecting a close support aircraft to do an interceptor's job will only end in tears and a rather large debris field. Perhaps adding some weapons, such as Underwing Rockets (30cm AT4+) on the second set of wing pylons and replacing the Marauder's role, while keeping the Lightning (which is the current fighter, right?) as the Interceptor would be better?

Well looking at it, there is no Marauder in the list so your stats above could operate well alongside the lightning.

If 36" S6 AP3 Heavy 7. is true (awaiting IA Aeronautica myself soon) then 30cm 2 x AP5+/AT6+ would be the stats. Basically a Multi-laser with more shots and better against heavy infantry due to its good DS. Epic normally ignores DS but 30cm 2 x AP4+/AT6+ isn't out of the question too.

It is interesting that GW/FW always referes to a S6 or S7 weapon as a good tank killer :D

it ties in with their current "Rock Hard Tanks" advertisement push (or as it is more accurately, the "tanks are basically rubbish now, but please keep buying our expensive kits" push)

i also find it interesting that the stormtalon, which actually looks pretty cool with a few very minor adjustments (opinion) and is visually consistent with the rest of the army it comes from (observation) got a load of flak (pun intended) while this model, which is neither of those things, has just been accepted wholesale...

well, it's an imperial navy ally. If it was meant to be a genuine sister's flyer then people would be a lot harsher.

as it is though, it looks like a serious buisness version of a thunderbolt, which does fit the Imperial Navy aesthetic. It also looks like it could fly, which helps. I quite like it.

I really see it more as an Imperium Stuka, than an A-10. I'd suggest looking at it as a ground-attack optimized Fighter-Bomber, more than a replacement for the Marauder.
