One thing Ive noticed is that SL has a Platoon firing at another Platoon, and the firing elements each roll their own attack dice (one die per unit firing, one die for all weapons fired, each compared to the die roll individually), and that each element (unit, tank, individual, etc) must declare their target before firing.

This slows down the process that Epic has streamlined (attack a group, hits assigned front to back, roll armor saves as needed). So...how do you keep track of your targets?

One thing that comes to mind is "Firing sticks" that I saw in a game of Battletech. Basically, small balsa wood dowels or something, placed next to each firing element, aiming in the direction of the intended target. Would this clutter up the battlefield for no apparent gain, or might this actually aid the firing process?

Since platoons seem to be mainly up to 4 elements each, maybe it really isnt that hard. How do you do it?

Really doesn't create a problem to just announce targets and remember them, as it is only (up to) 4 vehicles firing at a time. If you don't remember what your targets are by the 3rd or 4th shot, your opponent will usually remind you. :) It's also faster in practice than it sounds - takes about the same amount of time to resolve as it does in an Epic game.
