One hopes. But I think this is gonna be the Storm Raven all over again (i.e. it looks even less aerodynamic and flightworthy than the Thunderhawk, which is a pretty low bar to be ducking under). Though I think a longer tail might help. A lot (and looking at the Orca confirms my suspicion).

They seem to basically be superdeforming all the Space Marine vehicles these days. I don't think I like it as a look. :P

This Image is honestly what I thought of when I first saw the Stormraven; a Tonka toy'ed Thunderhawk.

Again, the idea of a close support//transport VTOL for space marines makes a lot of sense; probably more sense than barely armored metal boxes on tracks, it's just Games Workshop's execution of such ideas which are lacking.

Looks and sounds a little like the EWR VJ 101
Or indeed some of the Tau designs :)

Also I have to agree it sounds a bit over-powered - Is there anything in the various books etc on numbers available to the various Marine chapters?

Nope; it's not yet mentioned but will be retroactively added in to the background as of the upcoming new edition of 40k and the SM codex.

I like the idea of there being a SM fighter, but it looks pretty shoddy in that picture.

I liked the look of Storm Eagle. Less keen on the look of Storm Talon. Hopefully the actual model will be better than this initial sketch.

These are my thoughts as well. I guess that's to be expected when things are obvious.

I think it would work much better if it at least had wings. Something like the Osprey where the wings are attached to the engine pods and change their attitude depending on the aircraft's direction.

Also, remember the Harrier is a VTOL fighter so this design could marry up with that of a fighter profile.

The Harrier may be VTOL, but it's still plane-shaped (and, I would point out, notably slower than equivalent planes that lack VTOL capacity). It barely reaches Mach I.

The Storm Talon should likely be FB or B, rather than Fighter - all the current Imperial and Space Marine aircraft are supersonic (technically), but they tend to be pretty slow (Bomber and Fighter-Bomber speeds). I doubt this thing's supposed to be as fast or faster than a Lightning.

I did say it could do with wings... :D

My Harrier comment was aimed more at the fact it's still a fighter though, and given it's performance versus fast Mirage interceptors during the Falklands war it matters little if it can't do Mach 1....

I think we're getting a little bit carried away with pedantics versus 40th millenium technology on whether its engines are capable of supersonic speeds or not.

But like I said, it could do with longer wings though - just from an aesthetics point of view. Personally, I think I'd add wings if they were ever forum-ware produced.

i'm pretty sure that the 'fighter' classification in epic deals more with manueverability than top speed
and something with independantly swivelable jet thrusters piloted by a superhuman freak will probably be able to handle pretty well, even if it looks like it'll tear itself apart at speed

personally, i kinda like it. the stormraven really grew on me when i worked on them, and i forsee myself getting a couple of these to Ork Up a bit for my kommandoes
and yes, when i do, i'll be putting wings on them
