Cheers Westside, I've always preferred to play with painted armies, keeps me motivated to get them done quickly. My Chaos is a bit of a unique one here as I don't have enough minis to do a full army yet so plan is to take my time for now.

Re: The Tau, do you think they could still do with the green wash you suggested or has the extra highlighting done the trick?

I have been mulling over what Legion to try to represent here, I've settled on NOT choosing... all the colourschemes shown above will be represented in one form or another. Corsair Bikes/Aircraft, IW artillery/Havocs/Dreads.

;D That's the best way of doing it. More fun/interesting to paint, and if you do the different schemes by Detachment/Formation you never will get mixed up when your playing.

I think the highlighting looks great. (I had to basically go through all my orks and highlight them, without the highlighting they looked ok in the very deceptive digital macro zoom photos but looked like dark blobs when on table waaagh from gaming distance)

My whole painting outlook has changed for smaller scale, I am more concerned with how my armies look from how I will see them most of the time and that is on the gaming table not with a zoom lens camera.

If you have a bunch of the Tau painted, highlight 'em. The highlighting looks great and I'm sure they look just as good from normal gaming distances.

How I personally would paint them (as highlighting is just another step and more time) is I would paint the 'black' on the Tau Adeptus Battlegrey (or equivalent) then wash that with black (50% water 50% Badab Black wash) that should give a look somewhat similar to what your achieving with the highlighting for the 'black'. Then for the 'red', I would probably use Red Gore then wash with green (25% water/25% Future 50%green) that might/should drive the wash into the 'panel lines' on the Tau vehical while leaving the main of the 'panel' pretty much Red Gore color. Weathering, battle damage, weapon use discoloration, etc. could be added afterwards by highlighting and drybrushing. This is just a different way of getting what would hopefully be a similar result in less time/work.

I guess my main point is avoiding overwashing with black and brown as an overall solution (not saying that is what your doing) for shading (especially on small scale due to pigment concentration) as black and brown tend to make stuff look more dark than providing depth and shading.

Even with washing with color wheel complementary colors, you will still sometimes want to highlight, but hopefully not as much.

CS,
Some great detail on the minatures mate, especially like the night lrds colour scheme, in this scale you really have grabbed the look of what the armour looked liked. I may have to turn to the dark side for a bit to try some colour schemes like these ;D

Do you have any decnt pictures of the the white haired ladies colour scheme as these are next on my bench to hit with the brush, the lizard men are done just some armour to do until the pointy snouts arrive ;)

Great work on all the stuff it looks great, really need to get my arse in gear and get some more units finished ;)

Look forward to the upadtes regards epic

Thanks very much guys! Really glad you like the Night Lords epic, they were a pain to photograph. Here's a close up of the white haired ladies.

Cheers for the specific tips Westside, these are my only painted Tau so I will try out this wash.

Was waiting for some content before replying so moving on...

Hrmmm not sure about keeping 2 threads going at the same time but these aren't comunist aliens so...

My IW warband needed a suitable Warsmith to lead it.

Hard to tell here but I filed part of the helmet's face to make it look more like the official model.

Been playing around with liquid green stuff, for this kind of work I highly recommend it!
Some diseased/rotten conversions.

Last of the chaos is something I noticed when pinching one of my spare armoured supermen for use as a heavy weapon.

There's a noticeable size difference I wan't expecting which shows up when the models are placed side by side. I don't mind at all, I love these models, but found it interesting enough.

And finally spot the new guard addition hiding amongst all the camo, really need to do an army shot of these guys.

Sorry about how dark some of these are, the shadows do obscure the green stuff work especially, need to move to a brighter country I think.

C&C welcome as always.

Yar. The first lot were done at 6.5mm tall, the newer lots (including beakers) were done at 7.5mm tall as 6.5mm wasn't really showing their super-human stature properly.
I think the latter scale is better?
