Well, I've finally gotten around to continuing work on my space marine (now netepic) chaos horde.

Angron was the only thing I actually painted 17 years ago.
Image
Back then I basically just painted him red, and that was it. I didn't really want to redo Angron, but one of the first things I did when I restarted painting the army was to base the mini in line with all the current stuff I've painted, and gave him a few good coats of the GW wash baal red. It picked out the details on the mini quite nicely. Unfortunatly whatever light I use to photo him seems to wash out the shading. But he looks good in person, and on the table, so I can live with that.

First new units off the table are my cultist army.
Image
I mixed in spare beastmen, scrounged guardsmen, and even seven old chaos squats. I wanted to give the units a random/ non uniform look.

And I have just finished a unit of minotaurs

I'm working on my beastmen now, then it's going to be the turn of my lord of change, and some flamers.

Cheers.

Although I think I should paint a few more units before calling it a horde. :D

It's a horde in progress.

Cheers.

I know what you mean about the oldschool look, I think the basing is one of the main contributors to that. I want all my armies to match base wise, and it's easier to base my new stuff to match the armies I painted in the 90s, than it is to go back and rebase everything.

I've not exactly been super productive painting wise the last week, but I am pleased with what I've done.

The other chaos minies I've painted so far have been all darker coloured. Lots of brown and black. This tzeentch stuff has let me play around with some of my brighter colours and washes.

Between work, and watching the sumo, I've havn't got much at all done this week. However, when I checked the PO box yesterday I found that Magnus the Red had arrived, fresh from ebay.

He is having a simple green bath right now, but I'm at a bit of a loss in regards to how I will paint the dude. I'm thinking of going with something like the original GW scheme (blue with red hair), dispite the fact that all the fluff has him as red skinned. The problem with going with a red magnus is that all the other deamons in my force are khornate, so there are going to be a few redish dudes in my force already. And I'd rather my two tzeentch deamons stand out from them.

I guess I could try for a different shade of red. But with my skill at paint mixing I'm more likely to end up with a Magnus the Pink, or Magnus the Orange. (the jersey shore version) I'm guessing that there must be a few other Magnus using chaos players out there, did you guys go red or blue?

Well, I havn't really gotten much painted over the last few weeks. I'm blaming the fact that there was a sumo tournament on TV, and I'm not really the quickest painter to begin with.

But I havn't been a complete disapointment to the dark gods.
Image
The shadowsword is an old model that I've had sitting around for ages. I decided that with the addition of a spare deamon engine grill it would do for a decimator.
Image
Image
My bloodletters finally felt the touch of the paint brush after nearly 18 years. And they have some fleshhounds to keep them company.
Image
And a pair of bloodthirsters, with Magnus the Red.(headed) Back in the day I only wanted to make a khornate force, and spent ages trying to get my hands on both bloodthirster models.

Next on the table will be some long ranged support in the form of cannons of khorne, and doomblasters.

Finished off some deamon engines, and my Lord of Battle.
Image
I was inspired by deacon's cannons of khorne that I saw on the show us your horde thread, and drilled mine out as well. I think it really improved the look of the mini.
Image
And after nearly 20 years in storage this dude has finally been put together, and painted.

To be honest it was a bit of a pain in the bum to paint. But on the plus side he is that old that he predates white metal/pewter, and was really easy to drill and pin. I was sure to wash my hands afterwards though. The mini will probably end up on a base to be honest, as he seems to want to fall forwards all the time. I never knew that the old LoB was such a finely balanced mini.

It's been a really long time since I posted to this thread. The horde has since been finished, and hit the table a number of times now. With reasonable success.

There are quite a few un photographed units, and I might just do a big old group photo. But here are a few things I just finished painting.

A couple of champions.

And a cheery looking great unclean one
