So I've had an extended period of very little hobbying - only a few Necromunda gangers done. Getting back on the hobby horse (hah!), I've painted a test stand of my Warmaster Ancients Early Imperial Romans - 6mm from Baccus.
Legionaries:

The sand is still drying, but you can see the basing scheme on the figure strips. I may well add some Silfor tufts; I'm not sure though. Painting is deliberately tabletop level; as a mass of over five hundred troops they'll look great, and I'll put some extra effort into commanders and such.
Other stuff on the painting block:

Auxilia

Archers

Cavalry

Scorpions

Commanders
The casts are incredibly clean - I had to clean up the bases on perhaps half of the figs, remove feed lines on a few of the horses, and clean the tips of the pilums, but nothing beyond a sharp knife and flat needle file's capabilities. There were a few small problems with fragility - the banners on the commands come off rather easily, and the ankles of specific figures can be frail, but nothing a dab of superglue hasn't fixed easily. Other than that, the only complaint I have is the helmeted faces are ill defined (one might even say nonexistant), but even more than for Epic, the overall look is what matters. After all, I'm painting three times as many troops to the stand!
