I'm of the opinion that while the L&TD list is reasonably balanced, it has no real central theme, and once 3 or so variant lists are developed* it can quietly fade into history.

* Each would allow much greater depth and character, rather than the "mile wide and an inch deep" style of the L&TD list:

- Cultist Uprising Army (crappy human cultists + summoned daemons + limited allied Chaos support)
- Traitor IG Army (IG elements + summoned daemons + daemon engines - think Blood Pact type army)
- Daemonworld Army (daemons in their own independent formations + daemon engines)

I'm not surprised regarding the conclusion that Chaos Altars don't make much of an AA option.

I think that the reports so far suggest to me that it would be better not to change the structure of the army, so please keep posting your findings ;D

It will be a while before I get another game in with LatD as I want to dust off some of my other armies, if you just play one thing you tend to become a bit blinkered. But I'm wondering about the structure of the armylist. At the moment you have to buy a coven and then get one support, I would like to hear people's thoughts on if we have a core choice of a coven or traitor pdf/guard formation. Support options could then be split between these core choices. Take coven, choose faction support. Take traitor core choice, choose traitor IG support.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

Close, one set of core and two sets of support.

TBH I haven't got my head around the demon world variant as yet. Also the combinations might become too powerful.

It's a much better idea than removing options from the list. That said, I do wonder whether it's not just more logical to leave these sorts of decisions to the players themselves. After all, they can theme their own list, and I still think that the structure of the list isn't a problem which really needs to be fixed. It's also potentially too restrictive in my opinion.

Rather than just repeatedly saying that, demonstrate it

How?

My last LatD list was for a 5k game vs. my buddies Eldar.
I took:
Coven: Demagogue, 11 Cultists, DPact, Iconbearer, 3 Demolishers, 6 Chimera, Hydra
Coven: DPrince (AH), 4 Cultists, 7 Mutants, 3 Big Mutants, Hydra
4 x Coven: Demagogue, 4 Cultists, 7 Mutants, 3 Big Mutants, DPact, Hydra, Chaos Hound, Hydra
Armoured Company
Armoured Company
Artillery Battery
Artillery Battery
Hellfire Cannons
Slaanesh Daemon Knights
Daemon Pool: 1 GD, 16 x Lesser Daemons

I think all the different themes are here - guard units, emphasis on daemons, cultist and mutant hordes, daemon engines.

Thanks for posting the list, I don't have the time at the moment to check the list, but do you have 1 or 2 hydras in your foot covens?
