All the different Great Gargant classes can be seen here...
http://www.netepic.org/GALLERY/view_alb ... me=album88

Only one I dont like is the Mk2. Looks like a gaint SnowMan :oo

Love the Mk1.. looks like it ate all the pies :D

The Mk3 and Mk4 are so simular I dont consider them to be different models realy. I prefer the chest section of the Mk3 as the Mk4 looks like its got a shed sticking out of it ?:l but apart from that their pretty much the same.

The Mk5 Great Gargant is cool too. A complete nightmare to build "there was a thread on that some time ago. Only thing negative about the Mk5 is its lack of inter-changable weapons. But its a very convertable model and addressed the flaw in its predisessors, which was the dodging looking feet "that looked like ironclad slippers"

My fav Gargant is the MekBoy... spent some time puting mine into a Stomping pose which I think works well.

Id like to see FW do a WH40K MekBoy Gargant. Theyve done a Warhound Titan already... we need something Orky

Mk4 is my favourite, for some reason I thought it was the second to come out. I like the Mekboy one too, but it seems more like a mekboy stompa then gargant, when I think gargant I think BIG. Here's my Big 'Un:

Yerh the Mekboy is pretty tiny compaired to the other Gargants. If I rememeber correctly is suposidly because the MekBoys get so involved in building stuff before the battle they forget to build themselfs something till its almost too late, so the MekBoy Gargant is a last minuet job.
Still, for its size its a pretty powerful Gargant, as the fact its a long since disconntiuned model makes me even fonder of it. :)

It has won a few battles for me, nothing like rolling well on it's invulnarability when it's in a key position. I didn't know it had been discontinued, was it in Epic 40K?

*83 Ork heads painted and I haven't given up yet, so the painting is going well!*

Dunno when it was disconntinued. It was a quite a while ago.
I was expecting it to return when they revamped the other Gargants, but they never bothered with the Mekboy. I bought mine off ebay some time ago.

I've finished the heads, huzzah! Now I'm committed to painting the lot since I've already started on each one, so it would be a waste not to finish. At least I don't have to paint my Nobs any time soon, since in the next battle (and maybe after that depending on how it turns out) the only boys I'm going to use are Stormboyz.

To break the monotony of painting the same Ork 150 times I've done a few more conversions. Like my others some will turn out to look totally stupid (alright, some look totally stupid right now, but you see what I mean :;): ), but I'll be happy if some others turn out ok so I can break up the uniformity of the other gunwagons I'll be buying.

more knife jobs

EDIT: added another quick conversion

I've just realised that I may have bought the wrong varnish. I checked the GW site and the only one they had was 'Ardcoat (gloss varnish), so I got that without thinking.

The thing is I don't want my models to look shiny, has anyone used the 'Ardcoat gloss that could tell me if it makes the models shine? Also does anyone has suggestions of a good matt varnish?

Many thanks.

Hi Falesh,
a disclaimer first, I have not tried 'ardcoat yet! So keep this in mind when reading the following.
I usually stick to GW Purity Seal, applying a couple of coats for good measure - I find this is enough if I'm careful with my models. Gloss varnish, which is usually thicker, is more resistant, though. Ages ago I had painted a WHFB daemon army in gloss varnish, to distinguish them from non-daemonic beasties (warp-slime sort of thing), but I eventually unthinkingly coated some Chaos warriors with the same stuff. The solution was simple: spray clear varnish over the gloss varnish. The end result looked nice and matt, and should offer a higher degree of protection (although it is of course more expensive!). This double-varnish business was also reported in some ancient WD, but don't ask which  :( .
Gloss v., incidentally, also has the nasty habit of attracting cat fur (I have 8 chaos cats at home, including a dreaded Kitten of Khorne), and unless you want fluffy troops, gloss varnish + cats do not blend well - I have to take extra care with my daemons!
Also - scale matters! Gloss varnish does not look that good on small scale models (at least that's what I think) - glossiness doesn't look quite right on a 6mm trooper - even if 'it' should be a slimy, glossy daemon (or 'Nid), it wouldn't appear so from a distance, and therefore not produce a scale effect on Epic stuff. But again, that's my opinion, and anyway this can be corrected by the double varnish trick.
Cheers!

Ive always used enamel vanish on my models.
Two coats of Humbrol Gloss and a coat of Matt.
Very hard wearing, good if ur gona be gaming with ur models.

Enamel does take ages to dry though, exspecialy the gloss.
I alow a 24hr drying time between coats.

Thanks for the help!

Is there any danger of the varnish becoming noticibly thick, even though it's clear, on 6mm troops when applying 3 coats? If not then I think I'll do two coats of 'Ardcoat then buy a Matt and finish it with that, I'd hate for them to get worn after all the work I'll need to finish them off.

Where doing ur troops u can apply one coat of gloss and then dry-brush an extra one or two coats on.
Ur using the varnish to protect your paintwork. And the paint that is most at risk of being worn away is on the raised surfaces of ur models.
By drybrushing ur varnish on u avoid apply too heavy a coat and protect the most vunrable areas.

After that u can apply ur matt coat. Which can also be done by drybrushing several times.

There are lots of companies that make a flat/matt spray ... you can get them at hobby shops and craft stores. ?For hand painting, I use Polly's S clear flat and "real world" military colors. ?They are water based and easy to use. ?I only use a few of G/W's paints, as 95% of my 9 Epic armies are painted (or will be) in tactical/camo colors.
