Thanks for your comments guys! Much appreciated!!

Today I had time to sit down to start working on some of the stuff from Gateshead. I picked up some of the last casts of his first batch and some of the buildings are a bit crocked and have air bubbles and such. I got a reasonable price and can gs mend it easily so no biggie.

I decided that the modular "Inquisition Chamber" wasn't big enough in its own rigt, so I added some of the panels from the GW city set:Image

BUT I'm sort of stuck at the roof. Either I put the two small towers on top of the roof or find a dome of some sort (we have a Hirst Art plaster dome somewhere), but I would also like to elevate the roof somehow, as it is too flat as it is.

I put together some bases for the towers to give them more height. The plan is to stick some plastic card cut outs onto the sides of the foam base with gothic window reliefs, but I think perhaps I should make them even higher? They are 10mm now.

I've also toyed with the idea of a shingled roof, but the guys at the gaming club thought it wouldn't look good.

Gaming-wise I'd like to keep some of the roof flat, so you can place your units on top, but I would have to add railings of some sort.

Anyway, it's too flat now, and I need some ideas on how to go from here, so all suggestion are welcome!!!

Cheers,
Thomas

One way of doing it would be simply to dirty up the roof -- ductwork, air conditioners, (somebody was selling 6mm A/C units), Radar dishes, defensive turrets/small gothic spires.

Of course, good point Carrington! I have some spires from a Pegasus Gothic Building set and the smaller spires from the GW sets. Could invest in some of the DRM terrain pieces, but I think I have enough bits to make radars and air ducts.

My ideas are leaning towards some sort of arched railing with spires every 3 cm (basically every bend in the wall) and taller bases for the towers.

Cheers

Could always use up some of that roof with a landing pad also.

Edit: Oh and maybe put some hydra batteries on the corners protecting the building from air assault.

Actually I have a landing pad lying about, but that's for another project. But AA guns is not a bad idea to break the large plain areas.

Since the building didn't look majestic enough, I have decided to make two taller towers with the little resin towers on top and an arched brigde betweem the two towers, so the building will be approx. 40 cm tall. I'm building 3 centre pieces for an industrial table, this being the middle size and the factory the smaller centre piece. So the 3rd building is going to be huge!

I've also worked out how to build the banisters/rails. Hope to post more soon, but my time at the gaming club has mostly spend on gaming lately.

Great ideas especially the towers with the arched bridge. Looking forward to seeing it completed so i can cheat some ideas from you. I have the buildings as well but mostly use them as stackable to change their appearance. Gateshead did sell resin bits to go on the roof - fans , access vents. There were also large chimneys that could be added to give a factory effect.

Yeah, I've spotted the Gameshead bits, but now I've started making my own :)

The trick is to tie in some stuff that's clearly small scale for make the 40k bits fit in but still have that epic fell to it. I've started 3 new buildings (without finishing the other ones), so hopefully my imperial city project will be updated soon.

In the meanwhile I've started building a castable bunker for generic objectives.

It's approximately 10mm high and 25mm wide mounted on a 40mm base, and as you can see at a very early stage.

Your basic green rolling hill with rocks and small bushes. Very easy to make but very effective.

Could you please tell me how to get that realistic green on the hills?? I want that effect for a whole modular terrain I´m preparing. What kind of grass and bushes have you used??? I guess it was sticked using watered down white glue, right?

Edit:
I want to make something like this:

I've used a mix I made myself. The bushes are made of clump foliage, Woodland Scenics I think. The flock itself was mixed with a dark green and the standard GW green I think and some caoarse scatter. Ancenociti's Workshop stock all you nedd http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/warg ... clump.html

Cheers,
Thomas

So I started on my Imperial City terrain board and was of course distracted on the first day (realized I'm missing some bits), so I began building an ork city instead ::)

This is the first structure. All structures are meant to be dropped into some silicone and cast in resin.

Image

The plan is to make a couple generic buildings in different sizes to intermix and then adorn them with various bitz like buttresses, balconies, chimneys, towers, water drums, walkways, windows and doors.
