Does anyone use komandoes in epic ?

I don't see the point in them, but as an old blood axe would like to find a good use for them ?

I am using the GW Gazz Hoard army.

I am just interested in your experiences/ ideas :)

Not really. In general they're not that useful.

Even in the EpicUK version of the Gaz's Ork list where they get their own formation, they cost the same as Stormboyz formations but are not as good (Ie: They're overpriced even in that list).

They're pretty much the only "dud" unit in the Ork list.

I wouldn't call them useless. They're scouts, so you can use them on their own for area denial and ZoCing. As infiltrators they're handy as additions to mobz as they allow you to base-to-base up to two units when engaging, which is nice for Orks if they're engaging a high FF low CC unit that they can't quite reach with a 15cm charge.

They're basically exchanging the free Grot unit that comes with a Boy unit for these abilities, I think that's a pretty fair shake.

Only dud? How about the battlefortress?
Been a while since I looked but I think there are some variant lists in the orc section that make better use of kommandoes

Didn't it get a points drop in the TC & EUK lists and now it's fine?

Battlefortress has some potential uses; kommandoes are just flat out worse than stormboyz.

Really? I thought Grots were the best FF unit in the Orc army (and if the warband gets into CC it should win anyway).

For me at least, if I buy a Boyz + Grots pair, it's for the Grots, not the Boyz...

edit: The models do have one use; if I was starting an Ork army from the current SG boxed sets I would mix them with Nobz on the stands to stretch out the warbands I could make - you get enough boyz and grots for 4 small warbands, and if you make stands of mixed mega-armored nobz and unarmored nobz (kommandos) you get enough nobz as well.

? Last time I checked Grotz were FF 6+. :P

You're right on Orks winning more in CC though, Kommandoes extend that range by a wide margin which is pretty handy.

Grot rules, grot kills doesn't count for combat resolution.

Is it not worth having a mixed formation of 1-2 Kommando and the rest Stormboyzs, so that the formation gets a ranged attack? They're scouts so the Kommando can be set up far forward and the formation can chain with the 20cm ZOC. It's what I was thinking of using.

Given the difference in speed and role between the two unit types, I can't see how you wouldn't be better off keeping them separate. A Deth Kopta or two added to a Stormboy formation gives them a cool ranged attack with a great save.
