May carry 14 of the following units: Boyz, Nobz, Kommandos, Stormboyz, Attack Bikes, Buggies, Skorchas, Deth Koptas, Killa Kans, Dreadnoughts. Dreadnoughts and Light Vehicles (but not Killa Kans) take up two spaces each. In addition it can also carry 6 Grots.

Hi guys,

Just played this list in a major epic event this last weekend.

Have to say it feels really strange going up against the titan legion ditto... the ork gargants seems strangely uncustomisable compared to the imperial variants.

I was just prepping the next list revision and remembered another issue that has been raised - a single Big Bomma to get the barrage template.

Obviously, with any BP weapon, there are break points due to the table function. However, the big one is usually 4BP. Due to the fact that these are bought starting at 1BP and aircraft never lose fire to suppression, 1BP is itself a break point for a substantial increase in firepower.

We could set them to be purchased in groups rather than 1-per. The group purchase could be a separate formation or bulk Extras (i.e. +3 Bommas, 150 points, rather than individually at 50 points each). It's also possible to cut them, but personally, I like the Bommas concept and want to keep them around, so I'm leaning towards a method of group purchase to minimize the min-max ability of the BP weapons.

Thoughts?

Have you thought of using stats for the Bommer that are more like those that would be appropriate for the FW Bommer model?

FW Bommer-based stats is a definite option.

I'm hesitant to intro a fighter, since the lightest Ork aircraft is the Fightabomma (and the GW model is the smallest model as well).

Maybe a Kult of Speed list is a good list for a pure Fighta, but not this list.

I think something like this would tally to the FW Bommer:

Type : WE, Aircraft
Speed : Bomber
Armour : 6+
CC : n/a
FF : n/a

Weapons:
Bommer Turrets - 15cm, D6x AP5+ / AT6+ / AA6+
Bomms - 15cm D3+1BP, Fixed Forwards

Damage Capacity 3. Critical: Destroyed along with all aboard. Transport (6 Stormboyz units). Transported units may disembark after the Bommer has made a Ground Attack and count as having activated for that turn.

The stats are pretty closely based on the 40k stats, and the Stormboy disembark rule is because they can do exactly that in 40k (The Epic version of the rule I wrote uses the same basic mechanic as the Tigershark/Drone disembark rule in the Tau army list).

Stormboyz themselves needn't be available in a list that has the Bommer in it, but it is useful to be forward-thinking.

Cost: About 150pts-200pts I think.

Fightas would just be like the current Fighta-bommer but with Speed: Fighter, a Fixed Forward Arc for the Heavy Shootas and no Tankbusta Rokkit.

Hello everyone:

I am announcing that E&C will be the new Sub-AC for OGBM and related gargant-based lists.

He and I had some correspondence a couple months ago related to the supplement he is developing and had some excellent ideas that helped break me out of the mental rut I was in regarding the list.

I have marked up a 3.0 (because there are some relatively extensive changes) for him to work from, so it's up to him to work from there. To highlight the changes:

1) Grot Attack special rule is out.

2) Gargant discount is out. However, all Gargants come with a "free" Kustom Bitz swap. (With the standard Gargant options, this allows quite a bit of customization out of the gate.)

3) Support formations are 2/gargant.

4) Grotnoughts are out (I hate it, but they just don't seem to work).

5) Kustom and Krawla Gargants are out. Kustom aren't needed based on other flexibility changes, and Krawlas have a new manifestation.

6) Kustom Bitz upgrades have been completely redone.

6a) All Kustom Bitz now replace weapons. That allows the weapon swaps to be on par with other options, whereas they were very unattractive previously compared to the "add on" upgrades (and remember, the first swap is free). Non-weapon upgrades were modified for balance as needed.

6b) A lot of the weapons were cut, as they were of limited use and generally went against the abstraction principal of Ork lists.

6c) Several questionable upgrades were cut.

6d) A second tier of Big Kustom Bitz upgrades were added for +50 points. This covers the bigger upgrades, but also has an option to take a second Kustom Bitz as well. That gives another level of customization for greater specialization/optimization, but at a cost, much like the multi-weapon premium in the AMTL list.

6e) A transport option has been added as an upgrade. Basically, this allows you to turn any Gargant into a Krawla version. This comes with a +5cm speed upgrade, but it is the only possible way to upgrade the speed of a Gargant (max speed 20cm). It is a Big Kustom option (so it costs points) and requires the normal weapon swap. To give a reference point, a Gargant with the Krawla upgrade has the same speed and toughness as the old Krawla, with better firepower and FF, but costs more.

The transport option is a big change and may need adjustment. However, I think it nicely captures the Krawla idea and controls the speed issues in one stroke.

Also, I like it as a "generic" transport upgrade because it allows more modeling opportunities. It could be a Krawla, or it could be a normal gargant with extra boiler tanks and an assault ramp where the belly gun would normally be, or whatever (old skool, silly, oversized, "red wunz go fasta" feet...).

7) The bommers are out, replaced with the DC3 WE bommer, a la Forgeworld. This eliminates the token 1BP template issue and keeps the "like normal orks... but bigga" idea in the list.

8) I'm assuming E&C will want to have the Mega Gargant in the main list, at least for test purposes, much like the Imperator in AMTL.

===

And on that note, I'll let E&C take over.

Hey guys,

I'll be posting up the compiled 3.0 document today, along with our rationale for each of the changes we've made.

I'll also include a list of further changes for debate... this is all with the aim of getting a Gargant Bigmob list balanced in time to be included in the Epic: Mechanicus Supplement, and I'm very greatful for Neal allowing me to push the OGBM list forwards as sub-champion.

I for one is very much looking forward to seeing this updated list. It sounds like some of the changes I had been thinking about was needed is in there.

Maybe it's time for to dust off my collection of Gargants and take this list for a test drive.
