As above: all the GW rulebook lists the Salamander as counting as is a Salamander! I've got a whole bunch of these sitting around and want to parse my IG collection down a bit before revamping it but also want to use things at tourneys.

Has anyone got any idea what the Salamander is actually, officially, meant to count as?!

I'm sure no one in the UK tourney scene would give a stuff if I say they're Chimera's but you never know with some tournament organisers!

I've seen them used as Chimeras at events, I usually use them as Land Transporters in a LatD list or you could use them as Salamanders in an Ulani Tank list.

Residue of when SG intended to actually release a Steel Legion Salamander (With an enclosed cab) I guess.

I've seen them used as "command chimeras" in Steel Legion lists.

Alternatively the Minervan Tank Regiment list from Epic Raiders has them.

Pretty sure this is correct. I seem to recall that Salamanders were one of the intended new sculpts that were eventually pulled from the test lists after it became apparent they would not be done in time for the release. IIRC, the IG arty company was 9 arty units and a Salamander command unit (but that was a long time ago and I might be wrong).

The Salamander model was actually completed IIRC.

I'm sure I have a photo of the master model around somewhere.

OK. change that to "would not go into production for the release."
