Whokay...it looks like the storms have abated for the time being and I can get back to things that are more fun...

So, looking at the batreps forum, I've seen quite a few reports up, unfortunately, no one has posted a Tau batrep since my 2/20 edition. What gives? I know that I am guilty of playing (when I could) and not posting, but everyone? Seems like there should have been more. It is what it is.

Future directions:

A while back Epic-UK indicated that eventually they would get around to working up a list. At that time, I was fully supportive of their efforts and I still am. I believe that Tacwar and Epic-UK can work together for the benefit of each community.

So I am excited to announce that their list effort is kicking off. The Epic-UK list champion for the Tau will be yme-loc who I have a lot of respect for. He also plays the Tau quite well.

What does that mean to us?

Well, yme-loc and I have agreed upon the baseline and the changes that will go into their testing effort, which is expected to conclude by the end of this calendar year, thus making the Tau list available for tournaments next year...if I am understanding the timeline correctly. Yme-loc, please correct me if I am off on the details.

So what's going to change?

The baseline list will be Tau 6.2. These following changes have been generally agreed upon by the Tawar community:

Why would we do this?

Two words: One list

I think this is a great opportunity to work together (wait for it...), for the Greater Good. This means that tournaments across multiple continents and countries will be able to use the same list.

I see that as a good thing.

Well, everyone knew what they wanted to go into the list months ago. We've been waiting for you to get back.

Personally I've still been getting in games against Jstr19's Tau from time to time, and will get in another game this week.

Highly, highly dubious on this one.

Under the old list, Drones' only purpose was in acting as ablative armour for Crisis units, making them completely overpowered.

I'd really prefer we just balance the Crisis formation properly, rather than papering over cracks again.

I am afraid that, like with the previous lists, Crisis formations will end up never usable without also taking Drones upgrades.

This is the only proposed change that I am concerned may harm the list.


Eh, he's okay; I've beaten his Tau. :-P

But, the EUK list is in good hands.

Indeed its the only defeat they have ever suffered, My excuse is tiredness

To be fair I learnt alot from the game and have compensated for the weakness's it exposed in my standard list. Also think that Tau are always going to suffer a bit against Marines.

I think the problem then was that drones were disposable - added to Crisis without disposable you gain the advantage of cheaper numbers so less vulnerable to supression and breaking but at the same time the Drones have weaker armour and if fire power does hit them or they take hits in an assault you will take more casualties.

In reality its just for testing - the only formation that drones make any sense as an upgrade for is Crisis as they are the same speed and the Drones at least bring something to the formation. For any other formation the Drones are an odd match in speed so the upgrade is effectively useless.

If its really a problem from a balance perspective, personaly I would think just removing the Drone upgrade altogether from the list would be simplest or reset it to the current format were the Drone upgrade serves no real purpose.

I agree currently Drones have a poor fit with the list, and have argued they needed dealing with before now, either through upping stats or through decreasing points costs.

I'm sure I probably proposed something during the "E series" proposals that was not carried through to the current series, but can't remember what it was. Probably some form of disposable back again.

I also wouldn't be adverse to removing the drone upgrade and treating them as a formation in their own right.
