Hi
Just done 4 squads of death company marines.
Now I have painted the chapter insignia on the arm pads but it looks a bit rough.
Is it normal practice to leave them coloured or do you paint on the insignia?

Cheers

Mick

Depends, some people leave them blank, some use micro decals, and other paint the insignia on. Really up to your tastes.

Most people leave them off, but for that extra "Wow (you're crazy)!" factor you can always do them all by hand.

Decals or greenstuff press molds would probably be easier then painting the symbols at this scale.

Mad-angry or mad-insane? I suspect the second but my addled American brain is giving a big ? ? ?

Those two conditions aren't neccessarily related, BTW.

Mad insane I'd wager since that's really the only definition that fits with the sentence.... of course painting the insignia can sometimes make you become angered ;)

That was where the confusion came in, I was like huh? Why're you upset?

Man, I need the tyke to go down for his nap. We're both sick, and I'm not quite thinking straight.

Well here are my first few units.

Dreads/robots and Tac marines and their transports.
Just toying with making some vindicators.

I'm nearly this sick.. my buddies, Jimbo(who's on this board) and Mike Rushing think i'm a sick puppy for putting 4-5 layers of basing material on including static grass.(it looks like tall weeds to epic infantry) but then i put three to four layers of color on my imperial guard(love those coats). so ya. i respest the insanity of damn good modelers and strive to be one myself.

Hi

Yeah, painting in chapter symbols is great if you have a steady hand. And don't breath. And are painting Ultra marines or blood angles. ;)

My blood angles have just a single blood drop.Tis much easier but then I'm working on over 1000 of em.Yep, a Heresy regiment.

My other Heresy legions just get company, battalion and chapter colors on their shoulder pads.I use the same shape as the flags in the SM1 box set so the company matches their flag. Then just use a different color eack company. O0

This is ok till my raven guard legion (aroung 700 marines at mo ) they already have color on their pads, green for tac yellow assult and red for dev I think. So I think i'll denote companys by painting the bolters maybe, but i digress.

If you got the skills or time to develop them then yeah go for detail, if you want hoards, go for block color/shapes. ;D

Hello

I find that it looks a bit better when painting chapter insignia and similar if you first paint the symbol in a slightly darker shade, and then sort of high light it once with a lighter shade. Idont know why, but it does look slitghtly better at least for me.
