Ryan thinks Chaos Altars are rubbish and never uses them whereas I reckon they're fantastic and always field a few.

Do you have a list that you can put up? I would be interested.

As for last night's game, my altar is the same size as a Warlord Titan and the base is also bigger. It allowed my opponent to take full advantage of this and see probably 1mm of the base around terrain which allowed him to hit it with a MW barrage.

In hindsight, I would have liked to have taken that back and made him realise that the base was not representative if the model - only discussed after I cracked it and gave up. Being a half a base shorter (DC3 instead of a DC8 or 12 base) would have really kept the game alive for me. Oh well. I did learn some things about the LatD that I will use in the next list I make up.

I must say that the BTS of the below was pretty hard hitting:

Quote:

- Coven 2 : Slaanesh    (3 mutants, 8x Cultsists)
(Demagogue)
Land Transports x7
Fire Support x2
Demolishersx3

I would remove the mutants and go with Cultists if I ever took it again.

Couple of thoughts from my (brief) try at LatD..

Instead of demolishers I added Griffons to my cultist/land transporter coven. The BP attacks were good for discouraging my opponent from bunching up his infantry formations, making FF assaults on them easier.  Use this formation to double/shoot/support.

My other coven was mutants/big mutants.  Used like a large Ork warband; garrisoned forward interrain and agressively moved forward, seeking to summon/assault on turn 2.

Since you are playing Slannesh the Questor/Subjugator are superb assault initiators, speed 35cm gives an assault range of 50cm, void shields and 5+ RA means they can take hits well and FF3 is nice.  Hide them in terrain in the middle of the board turn 1 (walker helps here) and then assault turn 2 (after moving your coven into support range).

I must say that your Chaos Altar seems a bit on the large side.

I used the Engine part of the old Squat Land Train for mine (on a temporary basis), as this seemed a more 'Altar sized' War Engine to me, and I found that it didn't draw as much fire as a result.

I also find it's not especially easy to take out a Chaos Altar, given that it is a War Engine attached to formation of non-War Engines, especially once you have summoned a Greater Daemon to that formation as well, as your opponent can end up having quite a few target priority problems.  That said, beware of Warlord Titans on sustained fire, they are very nasty against this sort of formation.

I field a Khorne/Tzeentch list myself, so I cannot offer much of a commentary on your unit choices, also because I really don't like Slaanesh (well, you cannot expect an Eldar player to like Slaanesh, can you ;))
