I almost always use a Winged Daemon Prince... further "reach" for making assaults, plus 10cm counter-charge... two big plusses in my book.

What formation do you place them in Chroma?

When I very first started using the BL I used to take a winged Daemon Prince with a Rhino mounted Retinue, now I use them for the reasons Chroma has outlined (that 10cm counter charge can really help if someone is trying to clip you) in a Retinue on foot with 2 Oblits.

What Chroma said :-) THose 2 TK CC attacks are really handy!

However I use the non-winged version if i'm using a DP as my Supreme commander.

Teleporting Terminators or garrisoned Retinues usually.  Occasionally in mechanized Retinues.

I normally put a DP in the terminators and haven't used a winged one (to lazy to model it!). But as my terminators seem to have paper Armour the better save is needed for my DP!

This is how I plan on fielding him for the time being. He turns the termies into the veritable 800 lb gorilla once they teleport in and you can't really ignore the formation...plus my Loyalist termies seem to perform quite well with their armor saves, so I'm hoping that trend will continue.

Well my record with anything labeled as "Reinforced Armour" isn't good as many of my opponents will confirm

With 3+/3+/6+ being a ~91% chance to save, I never bother with the wings.

Daemon Princes don't have invulnerable saves, unless you buy a character to add to them.

And they often tend to be the "last man standing", so suck down a lot of MW hits...  *laugh*

I do, generally the Chaos Champion for extra summoning (see my recent Red Corsairs batreps).
