Pictures of the assembly instruction of the Trygon.
Trygon
Trygon Prime (bigger mandibles and a rattlesnake tail)
Mawloc (bigger maw with "wiskers" and claw tail)

Yep, this could be a good opportunity to dig out and update E&C's leviathan list, as adding the new creatures will help diferenciate it from 9.2.1

/sigh

If we could get Epic models of these that look this good, I'd finally start playing Tyranids.

Is it just me who wonders if the Alpha Trygon is a not so subtle nod to Alpha Trion, most ancient of Autobots?

I would be in favour with locking down the 9.2.1 Tyranid creatures soon after the background info from the new codex is digested leaving out most if not all of the new creatures to form the "Classic" Tyranid list. Leviathan becomes the basis for the "Modern" Tyranid fleet.

We already have the common creatures in both lists (where I think they should match the stats of the "Classic" list, the only bone of contention would be the Carnifex stats notably higher speed and armour in Leviathan).

I think the Leviathan list could see some pruning of the Carnifex variants (Down to 2 CC and Shooting variants) with the Exocrine Fex and Devourer Fex potentially being swapped for the Tyrannofex (2 Variants, "Exocrine" and "Malefactor"). Although speculation the Tyrannofex does seem to fit the bill on Long Range High Strength shooting and Short Range lots of shots for 2 of it's rumoured weapons and it looks like getting stronger armour than the standard fex.

Actually Alpha Trygon is the german name. Trygon Prime is the english one but the Transformers analogy still stands

I was just over at Bell of Lost Souls and saw the new plastic Ravener's sprue. Besides looking pretty interesting, it struck me that they might be an interesting possibility for Epic Trygons...or maybe a variant Hierodule.

Don't know about the last, but I will report back if I get to see the sprues.

If they are the same size as the metal Raveners then they are still to big by ca 20-30%.

The old metal Harridan's body has exactly the right size for a Trygon.

Usual conversions (including mine) use gaunts as the basis for the "light" WE Tyranids (Trygon, both Hierodules and Harridans). Current Tyranid Warriors are around Reaver Titan size so the new raveners are likely to be too big.

Ok, I took a look at the Raveners and came away with the following impressions:

1. They would be fairly imposing on the Epic table, so would need to be relegated to titan sized monsters at their full height. So if you wanted your army to have a snake or tunneler theme, then your Hierodules could be represented by the ravener model...which are nicely done.

2. However, to facilitate different weaponry on them for 40K, the chest device is molded separately, thus allowing a modeler to significantly lower the overall height of the model, thus I think you could use them as Trygon equivalents...I think. They come on a molded 40mm round base, some of which have the Ravener tunneling out of the ground, so I think a medium skilled modeling could find them rather useful.

I don't really know enough about the Epic Tyranid list to say whether or not they'd fit in, especially with the large base size, but it seems workable to me.

Also, if you ever play your games at a GW store and normally field something like E&C's Hierodule, then these could be quick and reasonably cheap substitutes that make your army "legal" again. That may not be an issue for most, but we play at both a GW store as well as a local hobby store and only field GW legal models while in their store.

Anyway, I hope the information was helpful.

Cheers,

Honda, I think you mean the Hierophant (4 Legged spider) as opposed to the Hierodule (Big Gaunt).

That said the Ravener would probably make a good snake like Bio-Titan along the lines of the Hierophant (6DC) or Hydraphant (8DC) but it would take a lot of trimming to get it down to a size suitable for the Trygon (2DC) or Hierodule (3DC). I haven't seen the sprue but the old metal Trygon is only 4cm long and just over 2cm tall. The Vituperator might also be a suitable Ravener conversion.

A Wh40k sized Ravener with wings would make a proper landed Vituperator.

@Arkturas

Yes, I am off on my "H's".  :agree:

So yes, for Hierophant (four leggies) and Hydraphant. Not likely for the Hierodule.

Cheers,

P.S. Did a Malanthrope ever make it to the Epic list? I didn't recall anyone ever mentioning it.
