Silent Death has always been my favorite, but it is more geared toward smaller craft (two-seater) fighters, etc.  It has one of, if not the most, elegant combat resolution mechanic I have ever seen.

Starship gaming news is a good place to solicit rabid fan statements :) Furthermore its quite exhaustive!

There's also Star Strike from the same company (Iron Crown Enterprises), a supplement for their older Spacemaster RPG that allows really detailed ship combats on a hex grid, more a simulation than a wargame.

I purchased the rules and liked (still like) the setting very much so I was really disappointed to see it go.  :heart-break: [/URL]

They're still selling stock Mojarn. And since "agent one" actually owns the rights to Turning Point he can actually cast as many of the figs for the setting as he wants/needs.

He was kind enough to do a small run for me last year of what he was missing. So if there's figs you need just order through the website and he should be able to hook you up.

I use the Turning Point miniatures for Solomani ships and the AOG Fleet action scale for other races along with Ad Astra's Traveller minis with the Power Projection: Fleets from B.I.T.S. as well as with TP2.

While I'm thinking of it two additional sources of decent looking ships is Ninja Magic's With Hostile Intent line and Ravenstar has finally started selling Cold Navy again including the new race, the Deisho. Full size ships rather than fleet action scale though.

I liked Silent Death for space fighter combat and Full Thrust for space capital ship combat. I also liked the previous version of Starmada- have nt read or played the current version.

Mongoose's B5 ACTA had promise but was let down by several flaws. The larger ships were too easily disabled by critical hits which encouraged swarm tactics with lots of smaller ships. Which meant that you rarely saw the most iconic ships like Sharlin or Omega. And the Priority Level whilst a nice idea in theory was just too clunky in pratice comoared to more common points value system used in most games. It also suffered from too many versions and poor proofreading and playtesting. It's main plus point was that it was B5 and gave you chance to play with ships from series.

Cheers

James
