EPICOMP 2009
It's coming right at you!!

Hi all,
EPICOMP 2009 will start on the 1st of September. As always we rely on generous prize-givers out there to donate prizes for the different categories. If you can offer something as a prize please contact me or Cybershadow - preferably by the end of August, to allow time for deciding on categories which can be opened for the competition as this depends on how many prizes we can get.

Thanks.

I'll have a look and see what I can offer, got something decent in mind.

When's the deadline likely to be for submissions? Will entries be anonymous after this year, or as before?

Oh.... processed cat food!
Sorry Nico, I'd forgotten about that - but I still have the template - I'll draw it up.

Is there a ballpark price range for prizes?  Last year's was good fun & I'd like to contribute to the event this go round.

Anonymous entries (no prior WiP, PiP photos, etc.) would be great.  It's probably the easiest way to eliminate potential voting bias.

I'd like to see anonymous entries being preferred, but not obligatory. Don't want to bar person X from entering their fabulous model from the comp because they showed it off on the forum some time earlier without realising.

It might be interesting to have some idea on converting (if there is category for this). Eg. picture of model just before priming and then fully painted.
Before and after could be done but surely a lot of entries in all the categories will be converted? All my entries certainly will be, so I'm not sure a separate category for conversions would work. Why not a best converted prize that is judged from any category?

I offer for a prize 4 metal EA Land Raiders, cleaned up and put together but never painted.

I just don't know if I will be in the UK or not! If I am by then you can have some 1st edition metals.

Hi to all of you,
and first of all - thanks for the several offers for prizes - they are all most appreciated as there would be no awards without your help.
The good news is that we already have 3 defined prizes by now - in fact the first two arrived seconds after I started this thread!

Answer time:
Is there a ballpark price range for prizes?

Not exactly - we do not wish to impose in any way, so anything goes.

Anon vs nonAnon (!) - I'm veering towards the anon - seems to be working in its first outing, Gothicomp.

WIP pics for conversions - if we have a conversion category, which we usually do, we normally set up a judges committee including Cybershadow, the competition organizer (me in this case) and one other person and select a conversion from across all categories. This of course has to be something more than a simple turret swap on a Leman Russ (for example).  It is a complex choice, as models can be converted using standard parts, constructed parts, modelling media or even entirely new designs sculpted or cast. To give an example, last year's winner (if I remember correctly) was a battleforce of Nurgle titans all of which had been extensively modified with loads of sculpting - a stunning and very extensive job of conversion which was faithful to the subject of the entry (Nurgle = messy) and included not one but several excellently executed conversions.
Back to the WIP pictures - if a conversion category were created, this would be an ideal solution - each entry would have 2 pics, before and after. The problem would arise whether a conversion should be entered in this category or in (e.g.) the single unit category - I would not recommend a double entry solution.
Anyway - I'll think about this.
GlynG: I offer for a prize 4 metal EA Land Raiders, cleaned up and put together but never painted.
Thank you - that's great (and that's the third of the prizes I mentioned at the top). Grand!

And again - thanks to everyone else - the roll of honour of prize-givers will be published once everything is settled.

Hi to all,
it seems that several PMs on Epicomp I had stored have disappeared. CS - any idea? I am sure I had not deleted these.
I remember a number of persons, including some of those in this thread, who had volunteered prizes - and am almost certain who they were - but just to avoid embarrassing mistakes on my part, could anyone offering prizes please contact me again?
Thanks guys,
J (a.k.a. V)

My apologies. The auto-prune for PMs was set to 30 days, although I changed this a couple of weeks ago now.
