Indeed a brilliant idea!  But one that will require a good chunk of playtesting!

Also consider how this will affect LatD (and other mixed-Faction armies) and their Faction specific formations.

I'd highly recommend talking with Steve54 about this and hash it out with him first if it's something you're looking to pursue.

I'll admit I find it much better and much more flavourful than the current Factions rule... and I'd go with Zombo's suggested changes as well.

For easier balancing you could give each Faction a points cost (yes even Undividec/Chaos Glory). And i would propose a +1 on Rally rolls as the default for Chaos Space Marines formations (they are Marines after all).

QFT.  I have a hard time seeing this work in a practical sense as it seems like it would be annoying to figure it in all the time, but it's a cool concept.

How about renaming the Greater Daemons to Daemon Lord Daemons (because the current Epic Greater Dameons are true monster like the Greater Dameons from Forgeworld)and introducing as Greater Dameons the actual Greater Dameons with power levels of the WH40k versions?

For example a Bloodthirster might look like this:

Bloodthirster Greater Daemon of Khorne
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Armoured Vehicle 30cm 4+ 3+ 6+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Daemon Axe (base contact) Assault weapon Extra attacks(+2), Macro-weapon
Death Strike (15cm) Small arms -

Notes: Jump Packs, Reinforced Armour. Costs 3 Points to summon.

Love the changes, especially to the aircraft formations.
As for the faction animosity, I think it is just a fluff idea and it shouldn't have any impact on the list. Adding bonuses to orders can be tricky to balance and for some gods seems far-fetched.

One question though: has anyone playtested the Harbinger bomber? Did your opponents have any issues with it? I'm considering buying the beasty and hopefully adding it to the Iron Warriors list.  :rock:

I personally have not had the chance to take one yet either. I may in a future game. It's expense is quite off-putting when you are trying to balance your force with an appropriate number of activations.

I would advise trialling it in a few games as the expense to buy one is huge if you are possibly going to be dissapointed by its use.

If it is just for the model as a collector, it is definately a nice looking aircraft.    :)
