The BHGS have just announced they are taking bookings for Britcon 2009.

In my (and other UK tournament players) this is the big one for the Year. 6 games at 4,000 points over 3 days. The highlight of the year for me.

More details and the booking form are available here.

I hope this will be my first ever epic tournament

I'm a bit scared I might not get my army painted in time though - I'll need to get a whole 4,000 point army done (alongside full time work and a load of uni work for my masters) and I'm a painfully slow painter, but hopefully.

Will it likely sell out? Could I leave it some months to see how the army is progressing or will the places likely have gone by then?

As Britcon is mainly a Historical tournament that accommodates hundreds of players the epic section has lots of space!

You shouldn't have any problems leaving your application to later, having said that knowing that I've spent money on tickets has always motivated me to get my armies finished in time! This year will be no exception.

I’ve just been having more of a look over the online tournament rules/guidelines on the Britcon site and there are a couple of things that concern me:
Where at all possible all models in the army should be WYSIWYG - what you see is what you get. At the umpires discretion non-WYSIWYG models may be removed from a players army – the player will be required to continue with his army “as isâ€Â

Britcon is unique in that soft scores are not part of the competition. There is a best sci-fi/fantasy army prize but you will be up against 40k and fantasy armies for that prize.

I'll raise this with the rest of Epic-UK and see if we can do our own best painted award for Britcon. Watch this space.

As long as your army follows counts as rules (i.e. each type of model used counts as the same) I don't see a problem. What race are you bringing?

GlynG,

A usual player at Britcon brings Squats and uses them at Chaos ... don't worry about not using the GW standard model. As long as you make it perfectly clear to your opponent X stand is this, Y stand is that it shouldn't be a problem.

Regarding giving your army army list restrictions and removal of rules ... cool. As long as everything is still legal (i.e. you don't give Stormtroopers a 3+ save or Ork Nobs a 4+ re-enforced armour save when the rulebook states that Ork Nobz only get a 4+ save) then everything is fine.

Regarding the best painted ... Mephiston is correct; 'soft scores' are very light at Britcon (unlike other events) however there is a best painted for 'fantasy games' (40K, Warhammer Fantasy and EPIC).

Thank you

Thanks for the responses guys! All the types of model do count as the same and if someone can use Squats as Chaos I will be fine

I wouldn’t dream of giving my troops better rules, just not taking advantage of some options the skimmer special rule gives me where it wouldn’t be appropriate.

Going up against W40k and Fantasy will be a challenge (as will getting a whole 4,000 points done in time!) but I’ll do my best and see what happens.

Nathan,

Yep you can only book both nights; however I would email Britcon and see if something can be sorted out.

Just a reminder to all of you lot that Britcon tickets are still available.

However, just like the Club Challenge, you're competing for tickets against other games systems ... my advice, want to go, get your ticket now!

Over the years this even has been raised as the best tournament within the UK calendar ... this year will be no exception; do not miss this event!

Thank you
