Elements of the 83rd PDF Battalion has been given the task of blocking a narrow valley pass in order to protect their main forces Flank. Unknown by them, a large pack of Slaanesh War Engines has ambushed their patrols and are silently closing for the attack.

The PDF will be set up "Dug-In" gaining a +1 to their armour saves as well as any terrain or defence bonuses. They will remain Dug-In until they are moved.
Victory points for the PDF are double for each Chaos pack Broken. They also gain bonus points per turn they defend the valley after the first.
The PDF have command priority for Combat Air Support to help them defend the pass. The Heavy Artillery is needed elsewhere. The rules can be found at the end of the Story Filler, here...


All air strikes will be called just like an Orbital Barrages. 3+ to call in. Strike will arrive on the First Fire phase of the next turn. When the flyers arrive the Target must be in LOS of at least one Imperial ground unit to be a viable target. Flyers will only appear from the Imperials table Edge (to minimise risks of bombing/shooting their own men and simulates a low strafing run) and when their attack run is over they instantly leave.

All aircraft stats as normal with the exception of the PDF Magog Bomber. (I'll post stats during the battle)

All shooting at flyers considered to be snap fire so only First Fire units may target flyers with a -2 (Total) to hit modifier. AA units ignore the -2 modifier. Range modified by -25cm as normal for all units.

One Combat Air Patrol will be automatically available from the first turn. All others must scramble - one additional turns wait and an Airstrike (3+ roll) must be caled in.
All Flyers after their attack run must return to base for rearm and fuel.
Flyers hit and fail their save are destroyed. Flyers that make their save are damaged and abort their attack and return to base for repair. Flyers are repaired on a 4+ and are automatically rearmed but must wait to rejoin their Squadron unless they are the only survivor.

Flyers do break as normal and have a morale of 3+ (?)


The Chaos Forces have infiltrated the far end of the valley but their main attack is close behind. They may only reinforce the attack by 1000 points each turn due to the narrowness of the valley cliffs. The objective for Chaos is to get as many Slaanesh Daemon Engines as they can through the valley. They will gain Victory Points for killing as normal but gain double the VP for each unbroken Daemon Engine pack that leaves the opposite table edge through the defended valley pass.

I feel like I have missed stuff out as far as explaining goes, but I can always put it in later. Enough, on with the story.

First Snow in my part of Scotland last night so I had to have the obligatory snowball fight with my son and half the kids in the street. You'd think they would take it easy on an old man, but no.
Now work/life is interfering in plans. Timetable is shot. I will do more tonight.

James is taking over from me and playing the Imperial side. John, his brother and the usual Chaos Player is unavailable, again. So I will be playing Chaos for the Day.

Imperial Forces are Surprised and so Chaos Gains an Initiative and Morale (not needed for Chaos often)advantage. Also the Imperial Forces are not hidden as they had to rush to their defences and are set up first. The only Chaos forces allowed to deploy are those able to "Infiltrate" and they deploy there Infiltrate distance from their table edge.

Until Dawn on Turn 2, Night Fight Rules apply.

TURN 1

Chaos Win initiative easily. All across the far side of the valley Slaanesh Hell Knights and Subjugator Scout Titans sprint in a massed charge towards the waiting tree line. Weapons ready for Imperial blood.



Darting into the trees the Slaanesh War Engines prepare to fire.


Whilst Subjugators hunt for prey...


Muttering prayers to their Emperor the Imperials prepare for the onslaught.


The long range, the restrictions on ranged attacks during night time, the Glamour of Slaanesh and the use of trees for cover means the Imperial Forces are unable to bring any meaningful fire down on the Slaanesh War Engines. Only one Hell Knight is hit and easily saves. The Hell Knights manage to Destroy a Sabre IFV despite it's protective cover. The turn quickly ends and Chaos reinforcements are placed. (The Mr Pinchy Party has arrived...) :))

SPOING!The sun came up... ...what?...  :glare:

(No more green images, Yay! They bloody take too long to muck about with.
I'm not doing that again).

TURN 2

Imperials win the Initiative. Surprisingly good roll by James.

The Imperial screening units stuck out in the woods pull back in an attempt at nonchalance.



The Subjugators Ignore them and take up firing positions within the woods, targeting the Imperial Defences while keeping care not to be too exposed to LOS.


On the Left Flank the Hell Knights hunt down the PDF Snipers hidden in the trees.


The First Fire Phase sees the arrival of the first Combat Air Support Element. A solitary PDF Magog Heavy Bomber (Yes, it is a Valkyrie but it's a Magog today, OK?!)



House Rule... well, it was going to happen sometime.

Special, 4+ save, +1Caf, (Flyer)
Heavy Bolters:  50cm, x3, 5+, -1 (Turret)
Napalm: -    Temp, 4+, -2* (Flame Template, Ignore Cover)


Sorry Folks but that's it for tonight. Early to bed and all that. It was a busy day at work today and I was all thumbs from tiredness after the weekend so I am bushed and hitting the sack. More tomorrow. :sleep:

Ok, I'm doin' it!.. I'm not long back from the baths and suana. Hey, I've got a life! I have a note from me mum saying I'm allowed.


One of the Snipers that the towering Slaanesh war machines ignored with such disdain calls in an airstrike. The Magog screams in and dumps it's payload of Napalm right where it can do the most harm, the turret gunner strafes the Chaos Knights on the way past. Other packs of Hell Knights try to bring the flyer down before it can complete it's attack run but the Magog proves too fast and their shots go wide of the mark.
One of the Hell Knights screams in delight as it's consumed by the flames while the rest of the pack stride through it untouched. The Subjugator takes a hit to the top Psi-Pulse Cannon but manages to make it's save.


Immediately after the Magogs attack the Daemon Possessed Alter of Slaanesh unleashes a palpable wave of sound. A cacophony of depraved howling vibrates everything in it's wake. It passes over the Daemon Fiend escorting the Alter, then over two of the Imperials Sentinels and on through the defenders lines. Only one Rifle squad is torn apart in the "Rolling Vibrations" of the attack. James, begins to look concerned.






The PDF's Flak units target a Subjugator that had strayed too far out from the tree line looking for targets. Twelve rapid fire autocannons blast away at it.

But with the Aura of Slaanesh protecting the Scout Titan even twelve attacks have little luck. (6+ needed)

The Subjugator easily makes it's save but the Stormhammer crew are next to target the same Titan and not even Slaaneshes Glamour can protect it. One of the Stormhammers heavy cannon blasts strikes the Subjugators head causing temporary damage. (Failed save to the head and 2 rolled for damage - 1/2 Caf and unable to move or fire unless a 4+ is rolled before hand. Damage can be repaired in the End Phase)

The Slaanesh Hell Knights on the Hill on the Right Flank pick off another Sabre IFV but all their other shots are defeated by the entrenchments.

The Imperials try their best to return fire, concentrating their shots on individual targets but any hits caused are saved with contempt.


The First Fire Phase over the Slaanesh War Engines and Knights begin to slaughter as much as they can in the Advance phase. Two Cavalry squads are picked off along with five Sabres while one of the Subjugators avenges it's pack mate and ruptures the Stormhammer with one well placed shot from it's Psi-Pulse. The Stormhammer explodes destroying a Robot and Rifle Squad with bits of flying shrapnel. The stunned Subjugator fails to make it's roll to fire. It groans disquietingly, preoccupied with the feelings of pain and confusion.  :oo:  That's one sick puppy.

The Snipers within the woods are belatedly mopped up by the Knights in short order.

The Imperial Flanks are already looking frayed as the Slaanesh Knights pick them apart from afar.




Chaos reinforcements arrive. The narrowness of the valley is proving troublesome for organising an attack but slowly the force for an assault is mounting.


The Subjugator fails to make it's repair roll in the end phase, but it likes it like that. :oh:
The remains of the PDF Sabre Company are within the effective range of "Embolden" cast by a nearby Sanctioned Psyker and so automatically pass their morale roll.

CHAOS: 5    PDF: 5

The PDF get an additional 5VP to each turn they can hold the pass after the first turn. (2nd turn = 5VP, 3rd = 10VP, 4th =15VP and so on) The Air Support will have fully scrambled and now be called on to strafe the Chaos Forces... with the exception of the Magog that is returning to base for re-arming.
