It's a shame you can't find a bigger table though.

Yep. Manticores can shoot anything on the table with indirect fire. I would like to play a battle where they couldn't just to be able to say it.  :vD

Aren't they supposed to be able to shoot at targets on another continent?

Those are the deathstrikes IIRC.

Yes, a larger table is preferable for a game of that size or you will have no room for maneuver.  You don't have to have a perfectly rectangular table.  Try adding even a small table at a right angle and explain that there is a mountain that blocks LOS on the inside corner of the "L".  Another thing I've been toying with is having separate tables that are part of the same game where players can tranport support from one table to another.  Or maybe a runway where one group of aircraft are taking off from which could be blocked or damaged.

Just some ideas.

On 'uneven' numbers of players, one suggestion might be for the Chaos and Orks to put some of their forces into a third group, fielded in the centre of their side between the two players. Then allow one or other player to activate a formation from that group as well as his own (or they could take it in turns etc).

On objectives, I believe that Markonz uses the "tournament" setup, so just three objectives per side. An alternative might be to add one or two more objectives per side (so possibly one or two Blitz and up to three take-and-hold objectives) but using the same rules; or perhaps leaving it to turn #4 to determine the winning side, etc. However as L4 would say, Do What Works For You.

Has anyone tried an all-against-all game, as written about in the rulebook?

Yes getting the Chaos and Orks to put some forces into a third group sounds like it might be the best idea to keep activations even, or maybe just have them alternate taking an extra activation plus retain which would be even simpler.

And yes we have just used the standard tournament setup thus far, and scenarios from the old Epic40k Battles book for something a bit different.
