Finally it was time to settle a few scores...
At one side Shoel and his Dark Angels; two tactical, terminator, whirlwind, thunderhawk and thunderbolt.


At the other yours truly with Birka IV Guard Regiment; mechanized infantry, super heavy, artillery, rough rider, sentinel and thunderbolt.


No, the battlefield didn't look quite like this... But order of battle can be seen.
Marines left to right is tactical, whirlwind and tactical. Flyers and teleporters off board.
Guard sentinel hold left flank and rough rider middle.


From the short side it looked like this.
Guard with heavy left flank, artilley center and mech inf far right.


Marines start off in style and teleports terminators into firefight with guard artilley.
Four stands and a librarian manage to do off with one basilisk. Return fire gave naught.
Morale showed of another side and those pesky teleporters was mowed down to last scrap and blood vessel.


So far 1-0 to guards...

Tacticals moves into far flank ruined hamlets.


Whirlwind tries but doesn't quite manage to wipe out rough riders.


Rough riders manage to wipe themselves out against ruin shelter seeking marines.


Quite an air battle over the heads of imperial mech inf!
First a squadron of thunderbolts hitting the lead wagon. Only commissar manage to bail out into safety. A very relative safety as the thunderhawk just loose some paint to the intercepting imperial thunderbolts. And then promptly shredds said commissar and another complete chimera.


Revenge!
The very unshaken artilley battery opens up with half it's number, the manticores, and thoroughly shakes the tactical platoon to the right.


Still roundabout 1-0 to the emperer loyal forces.

Mech inf survives and goes to challenge those ruin hide and seekers.
First some sort of long range firefight, then a proper assault.


Yeah, off course beaten of, but marines are in a bad shape now.


So even if the hunter manage to knock down a thunderbolt they are now running marines.


On the far left flank the thunderbolt squadron manage to total the sentinel ditto.
The heavies move into the ruins to flush out the marines in there. Another hide and seek and run mission?
Indeed it is! The marines survive the initial hail of slugs and volcano and promptly charge in to make mincemeat of those lema... Oops, who put a company super heavy tanks here? RECON?!
A razorback and two marines make it out of the city and into the trees.


Time grew short here so we decided to call the evening.
But there was not much doubt that the imperial guard was in possession of this particular section.
BTS in either tactical, hold the flag within a move and almost certainly they will not pass.

All told it was a pleasent eveing, thanks Staffan.  :agree:
A serious load of "7" that didn't work out for me and some few really good by him should've mattered perhaps, but in the end I held the table anyhow.

Nice skirmish, pity about the time limitation. Time always gets in the bloody way. How do YOU think it would have gone had you had the time to play another turn?

I really, really like the table and ruins and all the terrain you guys are using. Very nice. Good terrain, compliments good minis. Hey, is that table bent up in the midle?.. We do that too, sort of.

Anyway, thanks for posting.  :agree:

To take the easy parts first...
Yes it folds along the middle. Works fairly well.
Shoel has made a very good job on the terrain for sure. All praise goes to him there.

Hm... What would happen next?
Marines where down to two stands and a razor on my left flank. I had three heavies.
On my far right flank another four marines where trying to stay on my half of the field. A combo of four chimera, four guards and a thunderbolt ought to see them running.
Center see three suppressed whirlwinds versus a tip top artillery company with it's hydra still functional and also covering the three home objectives if spread out a bit.
The heavies could cover both whirlwinds and tactical and objective.
The only serious threat was his thunderhawk and two thunderbolts. But as my artillery was covered by the hydra I wasn't to worried.

No, the day was imperial. Those freaks wasn't to have a victory feast on our blood. Of that I am sure.

So that means you must have had Trator IG then... so it's a win for Chaos, Yay!  :devil: Yet, another mad dictator goes on the rampage. Bwah-ha-ha-ha!

Charming battle! Go Imperials! :p

I can see that you didn't use your "combined arms"-formations idea Erik. Did the points cost get in the way? (I must ask since it's what you told me to do against the eldar when I admittedly had been beaten pretty sound. I can't seem to get it to work in my list building as I want a "decent" amount of activations as well).

Quite right Karegak. At 2k it's three "naked" (shut up mr Pinchy!) companies conmplimenting each other or two fully supported having to act pretty much on their own.
With a few more models to spread around and knowing the game better I would opt for the latter.
It's not impossible to fight at 2k, but it sure is special. It might even be the real challenge.

Yeah...  :blush: ...indirect is twice as written. Bombards bombard at 90cm, not 45... :sigh:
But Shoel, I can't find that I can't mix Disrupt and other artillery in the same salvo? Also it seem as if additional templates can double up for multiple hits?

I must admit I am a bit sceptical about the "combined arms in all formations"-idea for IG as formations are a tad unwieldy and expensive at the start. But I will experiment and find out if it's a play-style thing or a "fundamental fact of tactics, live with it or go down blazing"-thing.

(That was a quick dirty solution to (badly written) rules - include a FAQ.)

But can I still double the templates up?
Already at the third one with edge to edge I can creep under the first one... Not to make multiple hits (shown above that that can't be done) but to cover more effective ground.

I agree totally with Legion, very nice board and scenery. In my dreams Im building a table like this one in my country house next summer. Interesting to read your report too.
