Hi Folks,

Not having as much time as I used to this wont be as fast as the Sisters of Battle Army I made last. However, I do have some of the things I need to at least make a start.

I'll make the same disclaimer. Seriously this is the best I can do...

The Destroyers are fairly standard with SM Captain/Sergeants with their heads shaved down a tiny bit and their legs, Power Glove fingers and Bolt Pistol cut off. I would like to use green stuff to fill the mouth but the stuff is a skin irritant and I don't have gloves yet.
The Immortal looks ok to me and I think I'll put three per stand. I wanted to see what others thought before doing a whole company however.

Now, this is a test, not my idea of a real Monolith. I know others have done some really great looking resin casts (?) for these minis but I don't have the talent or know how for that. I have drawn a template for my idea of a card built Monolith. The paper one was a test to see if the template works. The folds are ok, if I can get the right thickness of card to do what I need to do.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the EA list for Necrons so I can have a look at some of the cool ideas for stats (Abattoir etc).

Anyway, thanks for looking. Any advice and comments are as always welcome.

Cheers, Jim...

Good start!
The latest EA Necron list can be found in the Epic:Raiders suppliment.

http://www.epic40k.co.uk/rules/epic/raiders.html

There's a decent conversion guide in there too.

After reading the utterly bedazzling Raiders Book (If you haven't read it yet, then you should) and having a think about what I wanted to do I had to wait until I had some time to get started.
Finally I set to work last night and from somewhere (?) an idea struck for Necron Obelisks. There are a few examples floating around but I only have the very few items I had so far gathered for this project so I was limited to what I had to hand. I'm still not sure if I'm happy with the result but perhaps some opinions are called for.
I even attempted to base my Necrons in an attempt to make them other worldly and tie the army together. Please, let me know what you think. (Of course this means I need another table mat now, flip sake!)

Well it's a start at least. Necron Warrior Company is mounted and base applied. I'm experimenting with Marines for Immortals but not convinced yet.

I'll attach these two images for the people who can't see TacCom pictures properly. (Like me)

Thanks. From you that is quite a compliment Zombocom. I wasn't sure if I liked it and wondered if I should have gone for a more Obelisk like style (Hmm?) I think the next one will be better as I made some really silly mistakes on this one. Like putting the crystal bead in at the beginning and getting paint on it. (Duh!) But I wanted to see what it would look like complete before I painted it. Now I know and can refine the process.

:)) Thanks Mad (AKA - madd0ct0r)

I think the Monolith in card is going to be an uber-bugger to do . Oh woe is me! What ever shall I do?!. If only there was someone who had such a thing and the kindness to offer to trade one to me... Nope?.. Ah, well it was worth a try. So operation 'crappy-card' will have to go ahead as planed.

They look good to me, and illustrate well how much epic converting relies on an effective paintjob to tie the various parts together (that's meant as a compliment). My only criticism would be the bases, it's a personal thing but to me epic figures look best on flatter bases.

Having had a go at some epic conversions the other day (all of which ended up in the bin) I have a new found respect for all of you who can make it work!

Thanks very much levinas,

My only criticism would be the bases, it's a personal thing but to me epic figures look best on flatter bases.

I know, and agree but I have a ton of E40K infantry with the new long width bases (that I hate) and using these thicker bases for Light Vehicles (Jetbikes, Bikes, Cavalry and in this case Destroyers and Metal Daemons and Monsters) I then get to keep the flat square bases for the hordes of infantry still to be based. So I guess my excuse is necessity over aesthetics. Also I started this practice before coming here and discovering that trade was possible.

If anyone wants those long bases I'm trading them each for two (yes two) old used square infantry bases in the trade section. if your interested. Sales pitch ended...

No! No throwing anything away... ever! I'm truly horrified you BINNED them. I thought the Penitent Engines I did where really horrible but after leaving them for a few weeks and thinking about it on and off while looking at other members efforts and ideas and even the 40K pictures I made some very slight adjustments and now I think they look ok.

Never let your disappointment at immediate results make decisions. It's a really slow process for me, tectonic springs to mind.

Out of curiosity what was it you converted? Did you really 'bin' it or is it still around for inspection? I've only just started but the converters on this site are excellent help and encouragement. Besides perhaps with your excellent painting skills (I've seen your stuff so don't deny it) they would look better than you at first thought.

Yep, they got binned (thanks for the compliments   ). I tried a couple of things (the ideas remain to be retried one day):

1: Making an IG sniper out of an Eldar scout. Replaced the head with a SL head, resculpted the coat and added pouches. Looked daft as the eldar torso is so thin and I hadn't got the heart to bulk him up.

2: Steel legion Ogryns. The GW metal one is simply a tarted up version of the plastic one. I tried to sculpt a GS helmet and gas mask. Boy did that look weak. Now I have an ogryn with no face knocking about.

3: Catachan mortar loader. Beastman body, catachan legs, catachan head. Not good. Again, the idea is, I think, relatively sound but my execution was super lame.

In all cases I rushed the job and got frustrated. When I'm feeling nice and calm I'll probably try again.

Anyway, enough thread hi-jacking! What about using coins/washers as bases? nice and flat and they lend weight to plastic/resin figs. I'd also want to give them some texture (I use Vallejo's rather handy paint on pumice). And those penitent engines look very good indeed.

PM on its way.
