I've been working on /occasionally playtesting an Adeptus Titanicus game engine.

What do you think?

It is designed to use several of the core concepts of the Epic game system, and it is at least theoretically possible that by using the AMTL weapons list/points costs its damage rules could interface with Epic.

It's designed mostly for campaign-play, where there's a lot of fun to be had with developing your Titans over time.

Looks good, only went through it quickly, but looks like it could be very playable.

Having played this a few times, I can definately recommend it. The campaign rules are reminisent of necromunda, which is a good thing, and the in game rules are more complicated than epic, but less than previous AT versions, which leads to quicker gameplay.

I don't see it as being interfacable with Epic however, since titans are about 3 times harder than in Epic.

I've only skimmed so far, but looks pretty good to me - I'll have a good read through tonight, then break out the Titans and have a little fun...

Hey I didn't say that it'd be balanced, only that it might be fun.  :))

Its probably been covered elsewhere, but I don't think you can make a truly balanced game when considering Titans, you always run the risk of over/under powering them in relation to the other non-Titan units (its akin to the bad shower rule, either too hot or too cold and far too much fiddling to get it right!)

These rules look fun, I'll give them a go.

Oh and if you're voting 'drop it' do me a favour and tell me why it's crap.

Well, I don't like the Space Marine order system so I don't like it that you used it either. IMO orders make the game feel more static and provide no benefit.
I'm also not a friend of Armour Saves so there's another part I don't like. I think rolling saves just slows down a game without any benefits for the players.
I think after a Charge the Defender should be forced to move backwards, not the attacker ("Attack me anyway, but then get off!").

You have put much effort into the missions part. The Titan sheets are also cool.
I think I'm going to steal some of your rules for Chaos and Xenos Titans.
I'm not a campaign type, I prefer one off games, so the campaign rules are not my cup of tea.

I'd like to see the Gargants...

Make the Chaotic mutation table 2D6. At the moment you risk losing 1/6 of your force on it (unless you come up with rules for a titan sized spawn...)
2D6 would give you 10 options, make the extra 4 a pair of slightly good and a pair of slightly bad - options that would have no effect on the pick up and play but could be a nice addition to a campaign.

you may need to be careful with that +15cm range upgrade, may change the logic of some weapons (like CC or flamers) considerably.

I agree with redsimon about the charge should push the defender  - who doesn't like the idea of giant robot's slamming each other around the battlefield?

I've never played any version of this system before and I'm very much intrigued. I look forward to their completion.

I just read the rules quickly - they look good. I like the way it has some flavour to titans - like SM2 did. Hopefully I'll get to try it out soon.

Ok, I've read the rules a little more thoroughly now, and I'm even more eager to play. I am confused about the VP system though.

Are any VPs awarded for killing enemy titans?
Are VPs cumulative? i.e. If I get 'holding action' do I have 10 points at the end of turn 1, 20 at the end of turn 2, etc...?

One thing I disagree with (as mentioned above) is attacking titans moving back after combat.

We have been experimenting with awarding the enemy Titan's 'size' in VPs for knocking it out of action, and 'size x2' for completely destroying it.

Yes.

I think I may change it to 'defender moves back' instead.

How about the Titan with the lower 'Size' moves back? Doesn't help where size is equal, though...

Better might be 'Loser' moves back, 'Loser' being the one who suffered the most hits (or unsaved hits?)

BTW, had a couple of quick games last night, and I have to say - top job, Ben! Excellent game, loved it, and I reckon my groups' regular Saturday BFG game might be getting replaced with this! I voted 'Continue to develop it, it looks interesting.', because there wasn't a 'My God, this is awesome!' option.

Regards,
Reaver

That's pretty awesome.

If any problems or imbalances come up during gameplay, I'd love to know.
