As to the marine formations with 1bp confusion I would have to agree with those that say you cannot round down to zero. Regardless of the exact wording of the rule (which require clarification!) a BM is a BM. This was the judges ruling at the tournament which should have cleard up further disputes on the day. The ability to totally ignore one BM is a VERY over the top mod IMO.


To my mind the rule is clear, you round down to zero but still have BMs
I do agree with you though that it does seem somewhat OTT

I think there will be a small surge in SM use due to the Championship as SM armies are cheap and quick to put together, and most people already have one. Sms will alway have a leading role in EA as they are the "main" army .... EA was born from "ASpace Marine" afterall!

In the spirit of friendly debate ......I completely disagree with this!

Firstly, myself and I suspect Dave only used SMs as: a)they play quickly compared to our other armies, and b)we wanted the extra 4 Championship points!

I think there will be a small surge in SM use due to the Championship as SM armies are cheap and quick to put together, and most people already have one. Sms will alway have a leading role in EA as they are the "main" army .... EA was born from "ASpace Marine" afterall!


I'm always happy to debate points with you.

I don't mind having surges in players playing one army or another and for those that play something different and guess correctly then there is a potential bonus. Some of my first armies were built around the premise that players would turn up with a large War Engine backed up by Marines.


I feel that this is a bit of "the pot calling the kettle black" as I am not entirely convinced that your choice of a Speed Freak army was for "Diversity"! You did steam roller some of the best players over the weekend and only lost once. Not all of us are lucky enough to have the models to field the horde lists; Siegers, Freaks, Ferals and LatD... and they take a long time to paint AND are a git to transport! The model for these armies are not all that easy to get hold of these days as they cost the earth both new and second hand.


Yes you are quite correct I picked my Speed Freak army because I wanted to win, the same can be said for London when I took my Black Legion etc. etc.

I feel that over the six games of C2A I only steam rollered one army and that was Mephiston's Guard. However I had to leave his BTS alone as I couldn't get to it.

Joe's game I feel that he hit the wrong flank,

Steve had my formations running this way and that trying to avoid his ferals.

I was blinded by wanting to take out the Reaver in Nick's army and wasted my resources concentrating on it.

Kev should have won and I was so very lucky to rally all my remaining formations at the end of turn three. In hindsight I should have run away from the Chosen when the first formation failed to activate. Lesson learnt there.

And against you apart from it all being a bit of a haze, I think that I could have done with winning a SR roll though.

However don't worry I'm sure that once you reach my age you'll have plenty of modles to allow you to experiment with hoard armies   :tongue:


We will never see anything close to an equal spread of army list use.


And I am not calling for that

Don't try it, especially against Nick. I tried it, killed it, but had bugger all force left to win.

I think the championship (even though its just for fun  :laugh:) has encouraged players to play more armies. I'll be taking marines to the DS GT to get my final 4 points this year.

The threat of 2 hour games also must have shaped some players choice of army for call to arms.

Like Matt(Rug) I too took a SM army for speed and ( more importantly ) 4 points in the UK championship,by the way has everyone noticed who's back on top. :vD

I will be using different armies at future tournaments mainly for the 4 bonus points but also to try and keep everyone from countering previously used armies.

Like Tim though I think we need to keep an eye on the rules changes and how they affect the game.I have stated to others that even minor rules alterations can have a big effect on the game.

Yes the silly tourny does ensure we have different armies! So Open war its guard and I guess next is Orks of some sort.

The dispute arose surrounding what happens if Marines have one BM and opponent has none. My view is that the marines round down to zero but cannot get the +1 for having no BMs. Some of the UK players have been playing it differently, whereby 1 BM does not get rounded down at all, with the effect that the opponent can claim the +1 bonus for less BMs.

This needs to be cleared up as it had a detrimental effect on my own and other's tourney experience at the weekend. Preferably the rule should be clarified one way or the other.

On another note, we should all think a bit about how we react when a rule dispute arises. At the end of the day this is a game we play for fun and both players have a responsibility to resolve things amicably, with the help of a designated judge if needs be.

I believe there was a judgement on the matter - something you neglected to tell me during the game. That was at best a bit sly.

So you are to blame then Hena  :;):

The feeling at the tournament was that even though you are rounding down the single BM to effectively 0 there is still a resultant effect. allowing a formation with no BM to claim that the enemy has more BM.

This is the way that the ruling was made.
