Nar, I'll just paint up something new for Epicomp!

I have decided to batch paint the remainder of my infantry.  I have 30 stands to do so it will be much more efficient that way.

First of all I start with a White Undercoat.  I have recently started using White Knights Squirts Spray Paint.  I have been looking around for a while for a spray that suits me as using the GW spray is too expensive and some of the cheaper cans just wreck whatever they are sprayed upon.

Next I move onto the bases.  I am fairly messy when I paint bases as I use a really big brush so I don't have to spend to much time on them so I paint the bases before minis so I don't mess up the work I have already done.

The base color scheme I have used for this army is:

GW Vermin Brown wash. (warm red brown)
GW Vomit Brown Drybrush (yellowy creamy sort of brown)
GW Bleached Bone Drybrush (cream)

Sounds Cool ! And I Look forward to seeing your E/Comp entry ! I was thinking I'd paint my lizzys' skin/hides in different colors ... green, brown, tan, etc., you know ethnic diversity ... to be politically correct ... even in alien sci-fi races/species !

The next step in my infantry batch painting is a green wash for the skin.

Washes are an excellent way of bringing out the fantastic level of detail that you get on DRM infantry.  Much better than drybrushing or attempting to blend on a 6mm miniature.



You really need to water the paint down and make sure that you don't overload your brush to get really effective results.  

Push the brush tip into all the crevices so that you don't get white showing through when you are finished.

Make sure the paint has a thin even coating over the miniature.  If you have pools of liquid in the recesses then no pigment will get in and you will have dark lines around the edges of where the water drops dried.  If you end up with too much wash on the model use a dry brush to wick the excess paint off.

The Kraytonian super heavy fliers are huge.

The Aryx can transport a large landing structure to drop off troops into the heart of battle (in the centre of the picture).

I have pictured it next to a Tau Manta to show how big it is.



For the next step on my infantry I have washed the armour with ultramarines blue, washed the weapons black.  Then painted the heavy weapons a mix of blood red and black then highlighted them with a mix of blazing orange and red.

I am going to give the models a light wash of brown at the end to darken them up a bit, then finish the basing and all I will have left to paint is three tanks and the Aryx pictured above.

A brown ink wash toned the infantry down nicely.



I can't believe I am almost finished this project.  Its gone by so easily that I don't feel burnt out at all.  The DRM miniatures area  pleasure to paint.

Great stuff as always !  And thanks for the comp. pic ... "yep day allz be big muthas!"   And I agree with all the detail on the DRM figs your techinques are similar to what I use.  That's the problem I have is I'm always trying to paint too much detail on 6mm figs !

Painting fast is through simply relying on techniques to get most of the army painted then adding a few details with a fine brush to make things stand out.  I do most of my painting with a big crappy paint brush my kids had, its like size 5 or 6 or something.  Then I go back and pick out details like the windows and engines etc with a size 1 high quality brush, for all the details I highlight up through 3 colors with a strongly contrasting color.

Basically you never really have to be neat and if you do its on an easy to reach raised detail of the miniature.  That way you can paint dozens of miniatures at a time.

With nice basing an army can look really good this way and be painted in a month while still going out, socializing, playing with the kids, working, taking the dogs for walks etc.

Trying to paint every little detail with tiny brushes is something that should be left to the golden daemon painters who actually have hands that steady and are only trying to paint one miniature not a gaming force.

What I wish I had done is use the Ketzali to proxy my fire warriors as resin 6mm infantry is soooooooo...... fragile its not funny.

I am going to match up the basing between the two armies so I can occasionally use the Krazytonians as a Tau support race.

More great stuff ! Great Idea using Lizzys as Tau allies !  That has always been a "rub" for me is the Tau "fragility" !  Another G/W-F/W Frakk'up !
