Before my interest in BFG started, or even before I knew of its existence, I was already playing both WFB and 40K.
In both of this games, the WYSIWYG rule (What You See Is What You Get) is taken quite seriously, and many times some ?converting is needed in order to make the units look right.

I know that BFG is of a completly different scale, and converting is a lot more difficult, and that why I ask, is there a WYSYWYG rule in BFG? Is it taken into consideration at all?
(Assuming that the ship has a reasonable size for the class it fits, of course!)

More or less, yup. At least from what I have seen it is quite easy to turn a ship into is correct representation with the current sprues et al.

The problems come to differentiate ships that have relatively similar equipment. In that case you need to say what the heck is a ship since most of the time is basicaly impossible to tell or to convert the ship. Example:

Tyrant with WB 45/10 and a nova cannon looks exactly the same than a Dominator with WB 30/12 and a NC.

In general you wll find that ships come up being different quite easily and that conversions are an optional thing if you want to have a personalized fleet, but that huge conversions are not needed otherwise. Still te WYSIWYG rule applies as normal most of the time.

One thing you can do to "pass" over it is not sticking the side weapons on your crisers but to paint the model and the weapons separately. Then you stick in the model the weapons needed to turn it into your desired ship using blue tac (not recommended) or magnets for example. I have not done it but I have seen that commented around in different lists and I think it is a good idea.

Cheers,

Xavi

I agree- WYSIWYG is very easy in BFG, virtually nil conversion is required- most upgrades and bonuses are "inside" the ships so you just need to remeber what ship has what..

The only WYSIWYG things I can this of is if say on an Imperial ship you upgrade it to have a Nova cannon, it has to have a nova cannon on it!

But as Stormseer says, things like targeting matrix's and re-rolls ain't physically partof the ship, as as long as you know what the ship is supposed to be, very little converting is needed.

Just my 2p's!

Cheers

Chris
