This thread will include the rules and guidelines for participating in Epicomp 2008.
These will be presented at the start of this thread. Any updates or corrections will be added to the following few posts which will be kept here at the start of the thread for ease of reference. The rules are given in the following sections:

2 EPICOMP 2008 COMPETITION CATEGORIES

EPICOMP 2008 is subdivided into a number of categories - please make sure that you enter your model/s in the correct category.
Miniatures for other gaming systems and produced by manufacturers other than GW are allowed, as long as they are of 6mm scale and pertinent to science fiction. Note however that category 4 is range specific.

EPICOMP 2008 is a model painting competition, thus all voting by forum members in each category would be on the basis of selecting the best-painted model. The conversion competition also rewards conversion/scratch-building creativity - see below for details.

A model can only be entered in ONE category and not in more

Category 1 - Best single model
Any entry in this category consists of any single science fiction model or stand of troops to  6mm (Epic) scale. War machines and titans should be entered in their specific category, category 2.  

Category 2 - Best war engine/titan
Any single war engine or titan-class model in 6mm (Epic) scale. This could be either a titan-size vehicle or monstrous creature of any type, or a superheavy vehicle or similarly classified monstrous creature.

Category 3 - Best Battleforce
For the scope of EPICOMP 2008, a battleforce is a small force of 6mm (Epic) scale science fiction models consisting of AT LEAST 4  of the following:
1. formations of 4 models each (vehicles, creatures, troop stands etc.)
2. formations of war engines (titans or superheavy vehicles or their equivalents in size and capability)
ANY ONE OF WHICH IS A FORCE COMMANDER.

Thus, for example, a valid entry could include e.g. 3 formations of troops and 1 superheavy tank, with one of the troop formations including a commander.

Category 4 - Best Seeds of War formation
Any entry in this category would consist of a  formation of 4 x 6mm scale Seeds of War models or troop stands OR a single superheavy vehicle or large walker.

Category 5 – Open competition
This category is open to 6mm scale science fiction models of one of the following types:
terrain
dioramas including at least 6 single 6mm troops (not stands) OR at least 2 6mm vehicles
sea-going or riverine vessels of any type

Category 6 - Best Exodus Wars formation
Any entry in this category would consist of a  formation of 4 x 6mm scale Exodus Wars models or troop stands OR a single superheavy vehicle or large walker.


Conversion competition
This is NOT a distinct category! All converted and scratch-built models entered in EPICOMP 2008 will take part in the conversion competition, the winner of which will be selected by an appointed jury, instead of by voting. Please note that as EPICOMP 2008 is a painting competition, all models have to be painted. An unpainted converted model will not be allowed to participate, no matter how outstanding the conversion is.

3 EPICOMP 2008 SUBMITTING AN ENTRY

To submit a picture of your model/s to this competition all you have to do is to upload the picture it in the submissions thread for the correct category on the EPICOMP 2008 board. Please do not include any extensive description of the model or the fluff behind it. A sentence or at most two including the name of the entry is sufficient.

Please note that you must be a member of Tactical Command boards to enter this competition.

The category threads with the entered images will remain open from the 1st of September to noon on the 30th of November. As there is a tendency for a rush in the last 24 hours before the end of the competition,  please do not wait until the last few hours to submit your entry if this can be avoided.

IMPORTANT - entries should be models which have been completed at least during the past year and have not been previously entered in a previous Tactical Command or Epicomms competition. This is to avoid having extra exposure to some entries in contrast to others.


The competition organizers reserve the right to remove competition entries or request that they are resubmitted or altered.

After the 30th of November a gallery of all entrants will be made available online for voting, and will remain as a permanent fixture of the site for future reference.

4 EPICOMP 2008 PICTURE FORMAT
Shamelessly plagiarized from Black Horizon's Gothicomp rules!  

All entries should be submitted as single pictures, and only one image is allowed per entry.

Each picture should be no more than 800 x 600 pixels large, and should remain under 150Kb. The limit is set by the size permitted these boards, and is the total size of the post, including pictures and text. Pictures which do not conform to these criteria may be resized or otherwise altered, or disqualified from the event.

A composite picture consisting of different views of your model/s from a number of different angles are permitted, however the above rules apply to image dimensions.

All pictures which are submitted should be uploaded to these boards and not linked and hosted off-board. The reasons for this are that the board then sets the size limit of the pictures, and so it keeps all entries equal, and the entries become unalterable when the thread is locked.

5 EPICOMP 2008 VOTING

Once the galleries of entered models are set up after the 30th of November online voting will start using the poll post option permitted by the forum. Only Tactical Command forum members can vote. Each member can vote once in all categories. Voting will start once the galleries are set up and will end at noon on the 31st of December.

Selection of the winner of the conversion prize will be determined by a jury appointed by Tactical Command.

6 EPICOMP 2008 PRIZES

The prizes for the categories will be announced as soon as the allocation of these is finalized. All persons supporting EPICOMP 2008 by donating prizes - thank you! EPICOMP would not happen without your support.

One prize will be awarded to the first placed model in each category, and a conversion prize will be awarded to the best conversion across all the categories. The prizes awarded are non-negotiable. The decision of the judges for the conversion prize is final.

Any winner will be awarded one prize; thus if an entrant wins two categories* she or he will select the category she or he prefers to win; the prize for the other category would then be awarded to the second-placed entry in that category.  

*yes, this HAS happened in the past.

Just to be Mr. Nitpicky (as usual ) I'm having some issues with the wording oin the first category:

Category 1 - Best formation
Any entry in this category consists of a complete formation of 6mm (Epic) scale science fiction models. War machines and titans should be entered in their specific category, category 2.

Of course it refers to a single stand or vehicle, but using the word "formation" may cause a bit of confusion. I know E:A and SM2 used different words to describe exactly what is what, but "formation" at least to my ears would suggest several miniatures/stands, and it was only when I came to the "Battleforce" category that I realized this was actually for the single model.

Not a big issue I know, but just to avoid any confusion, is there any good alternative words to use?

Ah ok. That clarifies it somewhat

One more question thougyh: IN the Battleforce category: Does the formations have to follow E:A army lists or is any incarnation of Epic acceptable (Of course allowing E40k formations would mean fairly extreme flexibility in this case)

I suppose the same question goes for Category 1 really.

I'm also confused.  Is cat 1 for proper formations from any incarnation of pic and cat 3 for and random group of models that look cool?

A bit unfair, since the rules are not finalised yet, but I have a couple of questions...

1. Are miniatures other than EA allowed?

2. Are miniatures for other game systems allowed (ie not just DRM minis for my IG force, but for my SoW force)?

3. I assume that the announcement winner date is subject to voting issues - ie the number of rounds required, etc.

4. Best Formation is only an EA formation, and from which lists are allowed?

5. What is a Titan class? Any WE classification? The Tau Manta?

6. Battle Force seems a large category if it has five formations.

7. Just to reiterate that pics must be directly uploaded here, and not linked. Also, there is a 150Kb limit to all posts (increased from 75Kb), and this sets one of the entry restrictions.
