So just how rare are Rapiers and Tarantulas?

And should these be included in a current army list or just dropped and replaced with Thudd Guns and Mole Mortars?

Does anyone make a suitable replacement for them? Exodus Wars has the Guild Support Centuria but there isn't a larger image to view

If you are asking about background then the Tarantula is a common weapon in a Squat Force.

Rapiers are used but not as common as Thudd Guns/Mole Mortars/Tarantulas

If you are asking about how often they are fielded in games, Tarantulas are sometimes used as back up firepower for various formations, but not that often.

Rapiers are currently sold by SG, as part of the Siege Infantry set (You get 3 per set).

Tarantula are very easy to scratch build.
Have some sort of base (I favour a simple cross) with any small turret on. Typically I go with BFG turrets. The range also lets you build different weapon combos and I've seen a 4 barrel one used to improve the current Rapier.

The original Space Marine Rapiers and Tarantulas used to be thrown in blisters as an extra piece as well as being available in certain comibnation blister (it I remember correctly). As far as rarity, they can be found, but it does take some time.

When I was building my Demiurg up from my original collection I went on a mad search for the models and found that plenty of places, mostly in Europe, had tons of blisters with Gorgon, Termites, Moles, Robots, Tarantualas and Rapiers.

As mentioned by others the Tarantula is easy to convert out of anything and the rapier has been redone. I see no reason to not allow them and as Jaldon said they are common support weapons in both of our lists.

Well one reason not to have the Tarantula in an Imperial list is that it is robotic :-)

sorry for not being clear, I did mean in terms of physical rarity, how easy it wouls be for gamers to get them

I assume that one can't bitz order the rapiers?

Pretty hard to get, particularly the Tarantulas.  Probably a good thing too as they are very strong game-wise!

Not available on their own sadly. I've written in to see if there are plans to do so but I seriously doubt it.
