I have yet to see a single 4 warhound tourni army (though i heard of one in America). Also consider this - a marine army gets strategy rating 5 warhounds, a guard army 2. Also a bunch of WE is not unreasonable for Guard.

So I ask you - is this change needed?

This is prompted by a mate in the US pointing out the CC positions of the Guard armies (what a globalised world) and me subsequently reviewing all the Guard army discussion's and ones I've seen to date.

To be honest I see the need for marines, but not for Guard.

I'd probably agree to be honest. Warhounds are a crutch for Marines, but not so much for IG, who have other superheavies to fill that role.

Having said that, I'd love to see warhounds reduced to 25cm movement.

I can see that a different price might fit in with the 2 lists but it's the same unit with the same stats so wherever it is used I think it should have the same points value (whatever that ends up being).

Anything else is overly complicated and unnecessary.

I don't think apoints change is needed. SM pay +25pts for their SR 5 Warhounds. IG has only SR2.

I'd vote to keep them costing the same wherever they are used.

The 1+ Initiative for a guard army may be worth 25 points?

+3 Strategyrating AND +1 Initiative. Yes it is worth it.

The idea of the same stats having the same points value in different lists actually goes against a core design principle of Epic...

Are you sure?

I think it's just never been done, and think it's fine to have different points values in different lists, depending on structure / strategy rating.

Oh, and you think it's fine too, because of your proposed Hellhound price drop for the Siegers. :)

E+C, I think Chris was also saying it was okay to have different points values in different lists - at least that's how I read it!

The same stats having the same points value in different lists may go against a core design principle of Epic but we are talking about exactly the same unit, not just the same stats.

There's no need for a different price in this case.

*Epic is meant to be a simple game.
I hope we can keep it that way*

Really simple question then Onyz. If the Marauder bomber wasn't pants (so its a fantasy question then) would it be worth more to marines (strategy rating 5, crap arty) or Guard (strategy rating 2, excellent arty). Its the same for the Warhound. As it is marauder wise sane marine players take thunderhawks instead, but its good enough to make a point.

The reason we don't have universal lists is due to unit interaction. Tis also why things are worth different amounts to different armies.

As for simplicity, if your one A4 side army list containing all the points values (i.e. a Epic A army list) is to complex, it needs serious editing. Having different costs written down for titans doesn't negatively or positively affect that.

Saying all that as its a little used Guard unit, isn't part of the guard and so on, it doesn't really matter what happened to its points. Mayhaps I thought not changing something was easier than changing it :)
