Yes indeed. Many thanks to blackhorizon for this. His organisation has allowed me to concentrate on 'other things'. I am looking forward to this years competition.

But weren't we allowed to use 600x800 pics last year?

(edit: ?Or am I thinking of the epic comp???)

Thanks,
CF

Would it be possible to allow using our own hosting or a photo host services to upload pictures? 75kb is really low compression and kills the detail in the shots. 120kb should be adequate for 640x480 jpgs without bad artifacting.

You can upload 153600 bytes on here. That's enough for a 640x480 upload as far as I know.

Also, with an upload here we won't suffer from a hyperlink change at the hosting service.

Hi. To clarify a few points.

But weren't we allowed to use 600x800 pics last year?

(edit:  Or am I thinking of the epic comp???)

I think that you are thinking of EpiComp. GothiComp07 had the similar restrictions on picture size. blackhorizon is correct in that the max post size is 75Kb - and this includes comments. So, if your post doesnt submit, perhaps think about reducing text in the post. If there is still a problem then the picture is too large.

Would it be possible to allow using our own hosting or a photo host services to upload pictures? 75kb is really low compression and kills the detail in the shots. 120kb should be adequate for 640x480 jpgs without bad artifacting.

There are a couple of reasons for restricting this to uploaded pictures only. Firstly because it levels the field a little. Everyone has the same picture restrictions and the submissions are then focussed more on the model than the photo quality itself. You can, of course, submit smaller pictures at higher quality if you like. There is also the issue that some people do still use dial up to connect, and a full thread of larger pictures would slow this process.

Perhaps a more important reason is the control over the submission. With a picture linked in, there is the option for a person to change the picture after the deadline. With uploaded photos directly, no changes can occur when the thread is locked. There is also an issue about the picture no longer being available when the results are collated into a voting gallery. We had an entry in the last EpiComp where a picture was linked in, and even if I had wanted to include it, when it came to creating the voting gallery it was no longer available.

I hope that this clarifies.

Noob question, but how do we upload the pic?  Are there instructions on how to do this on the site somewhere?
Is this different than copying the image code from eg. Photobucket?

THanks,
CF

CF, you're no noob  :)
Use the reply button; the red arrow in the pic below points to the area in the screen where you can browse your computer to add a pic.

I just used the attach file function in the post. once you select the file it just sits there but after you submit the post it shows up attached.

First of all I wanted to thank BH for organizing the competition  :;):

Regarding the rules I have a few questions:

The picture size is then 75KB or we could submit larger images as long as the forums allow as to upload them (So as BH said up to 150KB)?

If I submit more than one entry will them be splitted so each one of them is in a different Heat or should I submit them along the whole submision period?

Once I have submited one picture could I edit the entry to, for example, upload a better picture? Of course I mean editing it before the deadline.

Thanks in advance

Editing before deadline is allowed. If you want your entries spread over heats you should better wait before posting another picture. 9 entries per voting heat is the aim so if you keep counting the entries you know what heat you'll be in.

Yes, voting categories will be arranged in the order of submission, so pictures posted together are likely to be competing with each other in the same heat.

Hi,
Vanvlak, thanks for the instructions :D

BH or CS:  In the text part of the submission, are we allowed to insert a link to more pics?  I.e., is it permissible to write eg: "more pics can be found at www.blahblahblah"?

Thanks,
CF
